Plant butter?

Flora is advertising its 'Plant Butter' on TV at the moment. But as it contains no dairy produce, how can it be butter? OK, they call it 'plant b*tter', with the U replaced by a leaf, but the inference is that it's butter. It's just margarine! No doubt the lawyers have been all over it, but I find it annoying ..read more

Misleading Packaging Details

I was browsing online and checked out Sainsbury's Freefrom range. As we have allergies/intolerances, I'm always very careful about ingredients. Anyway, came across some Sainsbury's Freefrom Garlic Chicken Kiev and was pleased to see the UK flag on the box as I try to support British farmers whenever I can. However when I read further down the package I came across the following "Packaged in UK", which doesn't mean the chicken didn't come from UK but wherever it's from they're not telling. So I was wondering: (1) What do you think of that and (2) Have you come across anything similar ..read more

Don't do it, It was worth a try, but they burnt before they started to cook and there is not really enough room. Tried them in the halogen as well, but the same thing. Best way is in the normal oven. Not made them for years, nice homemade ginger nuts, also made some cheese scones ..read more

What does everyone think of them? The last time I went in my local Brewers' Fayre pub (the Turnpike in Knottingley in West Yorkshire, located next to the Premier Inn just off Pontefract Road) was in 2018 and I only had a few pints - can't remember the last time I had a meal in there though! And when I was a kid, I used to enjoy playing in the Indoor Play Area that they had (especially on the Sony PlayStation cabinets)! It's just I'm going to the Turnpike for my birthday meal (I'm 26 in two weeks today) and there about 5 (maybe 6 if my best mate can make it) going. Do they have waiters/waitress ..read more

My primary school child wants to make Brownies for a school bake but all the chocolate says 'may contain nuts'. I am sure I have seen Brownies at previous school bakes but the only chocolate I can see without that messaging is kit kat Everything else says 'may contain nuts'. Well 'may' is kind of not certain. I don't want to kill a child. Is there a decent chocolate with no possibility of nuts ..read more

Morrisons and their vouchers, do people use them much?

At my local Morrisons, when you use the self service tills a message appears at the end asking you to take your receipt and any vouchers which have been dispensed. These vouchers are issued through a separate dispenser above the self service unit, but in fact people seem largely to ignore them and not take the vouchers. Today I could have taken a voucher for myself that someone else had left, but I didn't bother, in fact I didn't even notice it was there really. Is Morrisons the only supermarket that issues vouchers randomly in this way? I have taken these vouchers on 2 occasions that I remem ..read more

Help with Meal name (sounded like Orinoco flow)

Hi, My partner wants to do something special to Remeber my dad and asked me what was his favourite food (or what food reminds me of him) and when we were kids he used to make a meal that we all jokingly called “Orinoco flow” as the actual dish name sounded like Orinoco. What a Remeber of it was it had mash potatoes (which I think he mixed with peas as they were quite green around the outside leaving a “bowl” in the middle which was filled with chunks of beef (like stewing steak meat) in a red, almost like sweet and sour, sauce. He was always dead proud that he could cook this well. Does anyon ..read more

Best naan ready made

I am looking for a shop brought naan that I can serve at home. I want it as close to a takeaway as possible. Nothing filled, just bready. I am ok with it flavoured, as long as it is not over powering. Every one I have tried seems to bread apart and feels stale. It also seems too thick. Not a fan of the filled ones, I just want a fresh naan I can buy ready to be re heated with my curry! Thank you if you can advise. I don't mind venturing to go get something good, like a specialist shop if it tastes what I am looking for. Oh and preferable freeze able as I can't get through a big naan pack of ..read more

Kellogg’s CEO says struggling families should consider ‘Cereal For Dinner’

In an interview with CNBC, WK Kellogg CEO Gary Pilnick said the company was advertising cereal for dinner to consumers looking for more affordable options. “Give chicken the night off,” the ad’s tagline reads. WK Kellogg owns cereals such as Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Corn Flakes and others. “The cereal category has always been quite affordable, and it tends to be a great destination when consumers are under pressure,” Pilnick said. “If you think about the cost of cereal for a family versus what they might otherwise do, that’s going to be much more affordable.” His advice hasn’t landed wel ..read more
