Be honest, how often do you get in your own way? How often do you promise yourself that when you're fitter, richer, more experienced, have enough time, that you'll do all of those wonderful things you've been putting off for years? Or maybe it's simpler than that ... the little excuses that we make regarding our self care, which we know are really a load of BS. Case in point - if you have time to scroll mindlessly through Facebook for half an hour a day, you definitely have time for a daily yoga practice ;) In a midst of infinite choices, sometimes its really hard to figure out what to do (or ..read more

10 Awesome Travel Tips for Yogis
The Travelling Yogi Blog

I'm now moving into my seventh year of nomadic living and eighth year of teaching yoga and I've picked up a few tips along the way! I've been the chick who's carted a 3kg Liforme mat around Asia, gone to a 'vinyasa' yoga class only to discover I'm the only solo person in a couples only tantra workshop, I've been hit on mid handstand by sweaty guys with man buns and ripped the entire crotch of my yoga pants mid teaching. It's safe to say I've seen some questionable things but there is nothing more awesome than unrolling your mat in a beautiful tropical country. Whether you're on retreat with m ..read more

How yoga got me through

For those inevitable times in life when something unexpected happens, when we're challenged in the most profound of ways or even if we're just feeling a little unsettled we can allow the practice of yoga to do what it's really designed for ... to connect us to what is true, and move through challenges with grace. I am a self confessed (recovering) control freak, and I have always struggled a bit with change. For the past 6 years I have chosen the life of a travelling yogi... one that is transient, ever changing and yep ... at times, pretty unstable. I think on a subconscious level I chose thi ..read more

As 2018 draws to a close, it's time to make your home a sanctuary ... a place for relaxation and reflection. When life feels busy, just 5 minutes can make all the difference. I hope these little ideas bring you as much peace as they do for me :) Gratitude Journalling For those of you who have been on retreat with me, you know the power of the mighty gratitude journal! To make it work for 5 minutes of zen, kick off your shoes, brew your favourite tea, curl up on a big cushion with a beautiful note book and simply write down 3-5 things you are grateful for today. If nothing comes immediately fo ..read more

Alright guys, time to get real. This is what it's really like out there! Hope you enjoy these and please feel free to reach out and suggest some more. I'd love to heat them! A little bit of light Monday reading for you ;) Behind the Scenes Ah that wonderful moment when you arrive for your yoga retreat and it’s all incense and relaxing mantra music, and there’s your teacher, sipping a green tea in her kaftan, waiting calmly for your arrival… hmmm. Rewind to 15 minutes ago and I’m in the blistering heat, covered in sweat trying to erect a wayward bell tent, I can’t find the incense and the clea ..read more

Pace Yourself Slow down turbo ... you're here all week! I know it's exciting and you want to nail your headstand, meditate like the buddha, achieve enlightenment and find the secret to world peace in 7 days but remember to check into your energy levels during the week ;) Remember you're here to renew, revitalise and reflect as well as to rock it. I often say, the most advanced practitioner is not the one in the front doing the handstands, it's the yogi who assesses where she is anew every time she steps on her mat and responds intuitively to nurture herself through yoga. If that means going h ..read more

I've come to realise recently that travelling has provided me with as many life lessons as my yoga journey. The two are so intertwined that they merge into one. Those of you who have been on retreat with me this year will know that I'm talking a lot about how we show up in the world, how we live in line with our surroundings and honour the events that happen in our lives by leaning into them and being fully present. Travelling is a wonderful way to practice this... Be flexible with your plans When I went on my first backpacking adventure in my 20's I had a detailed itinerary of literally EVER ..read more

My Ashram Experience

I finished my retreat in Goa literally two hours ago and now I'm zooming up to Denpasar airport dressed in harem pants and long sleeved shirt to spend 5 days in an Indian ashram. Our programme begins at 5.30am tomorrow morning. Hmmm. I'm beginning to question which part of me thought this would be a 'relaxing' way to spend a few days after three months of full power teaching but here I am, armed with the only 'covered up' clothes I own and and armful of jumpers for those early morning meditations. Fast forward a few hours and we arrive at midnight to be directed to an enormous hallway with ro ..read more

Why is Yoga so Freaking Hard?

Still falling over in crow pose after a year of practicing? Getting frustrated because your heels aren't on the ground in downward facing dog? Struggling to find the motivation to get to your 9am Saturday morning class? Lucky if your meditation lasts over 5 minutes without you giving up and putting the kettle on? I hear you!! The question is ... why is the yoga practice so goddamn hard? In a word ... because it's supposed to be! With any type of learning we have to put ourselves in unfamiliar territory to gain new skills and understanding. That is the definition of learning. And that my friend ..read more
