Is there a demand for a Laravel AuthZero?

I've gone on a bit of a journey recently. I am building a couple of B2B apps, and so facing the possibility of a future where a customer asks for SAML authentication. The rule is leave things until someone asks, yes, but it's plaguing my mind because I know it'll be a headache. At the moment, one of my apps has an independent HQ app, which covers registration, login, billing, managing tenancies and their resources; it then has child apps which sign in via Socialite (child) / Passport (HQ). Child apps then use an API to pull down updated resources & permissions from the HQ. But I'm now bui ..read more

Strategy to handle long data processing once a month

I have a business management app built using Laravel 8. Small usage, single LAMP host on Vultr (4 cpu, 8GB). Day to day, everything is good, host usage is less than 20%. On the 1st of every month at 1am, I need to aggregate a lot of data for reporting. I have a console command with queue jobs that goes through tens of thousands of accounts, inventory items and transactions. This scheduled task runs for ~5 hours. I need to plan on how to get this down to under an hour and keep it under an hour as users and data increases. What strategies have people used for similar situations? A few det ..read more

I'm sure most of you here will have had at least some exposure with Laravel's Spatie Media Library. If you haven't, it's a great package that offers quick and easy asset, specifically image management for your models. One technique I like to use, is prefixing my medias storage path based on the current environment, while using cloud providers. I just thought I'd share this tutorial on how it can be easily achieved. https://christalks.dev/post/prefixing-your-medias-storage-paths-with-spatie-media-library-c5393b69 submitted by /u/chrispage1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

SimpleStats - a lightweight statistics tool for Laravel applications

Hi folks, I built SimpleStats because I always found it way too exhausting and complicated to obtain meaningful tracking for my Laravel applications, which go beyond just counting visits, views, and page impressions. While tools like Google Analytics or Fathom provide basic metrics for your blog or website, they often don’t suffice for complex applications where user registration, activity and financial transactions play a crucial role. At least, not without extensive custom setups. Anything beyond basic metrics typically requires manual implementation, adding to the workload. Moreover, w ..read more

Is it possible to use Laravel Herd with a static site or vue project (not Laravel or PHP)?

I've just switching to using laravel herd and it seemed a breeze, but now i'm finding it impossible to use with a static vue site. This site is just html/js that calls a separate API on a separate project/domain and has no need for PHP. From my own investigations it seems like an nginx file is created in ~"/Library/Application Support/Herd/config/valet/Nginx/mydomain.test" and it's designed for PHP sites. I could edit this to what I need but that feels hacky. I assume lots of people have non Laravel projects as well as Laravel ones, what's the best approach? submitted by /u/35202129078 [visi ..read more

What do you use to build mobile apps?

For one of my side projects I'd like to dabble in a mobile app, I've built out the extensive API in Laravel but I'm not too sure which technology to go with to consume the API. I am pretty familar with VueJS but a mobile app is all new territory for me. I have heard of the Ionic Framework which looks promising but I'm open to suggestions, I'd like something as painless as possible. Thanks a bunch :) submitted by /u/TertiaryOrbit [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Do you guys really follow "Cruddy by Design"? How do you handle the hassle that is choosing names for additional Controllers?

For context, I’m not someone deeply inside the talks and conventions of Laravel development. I worked with other frameworks before but now as I was the main developer dealing with Laravel on the last job I had, and also doing maintenance on legacy Laravel applications at the current company, where not even OOP is followed in a good way because of Go Horse and bad programmers, I was not inserted in a very "follow the good practices" environment, but now I'm trying to improve everything and make the code from my current and new projects to be more “Laravel Way”. So I tried using the Laravel Lin ..read more
