If you’re like me, a typical millennial, wondering what to do with your spare time besides doing the proverbial sin – mindless scrolling, you’ve stopped at the right up-flick. There are countless blogs on no-surfs, screenless challenges etc. However, no matter how hard I try to go “no screen”, I end up looking at some kind of screen – even if I am just listening to an audiobook or a playlist. Now, I have just given up. Like many minimalists who need to use tech to actually function in society, I admit – I need my screens and unlimited screen time. Jumping straight to the chase, here is what I ..read more

I know, I know. I have been off the radar for a while. Turns out that, I was facing imposter syndrome. “What imposter syndrome? You DO live simply.” you may ask. Well, personally… after all those interviews and questions by others, I always go into myself and ask “Did I truly give them the best possible response?” In this post, I’m gonna dump all the insecurities I have with minimalism. At work, I tend to overwhelm myself with context. – Either, I feel that I don’t have enough context to solve a problem, or my teachers/students don’t have enough context and I info dump. My husband and I are ..read more

16. Get a memorial tattoo for my dogs and cats

Finally got them on 6 Jan 2023 to immortalize my emotional attachments to my pets and to try to embrace their deaths (or eventual deaths). Why skulls? It is probably the stereotypical blend of being an animal lover and being mildly enamored by the concept of memento mori. However, I did not want a typical memento mori tattoo. Coincidentally, I am also casually working at the taxidermy shop from my last bucket list post. Being surrounded by skulls and skeletons, I decided that having the intricacy of a skull inked would be a lot more meaningful/quirky than a portrait piece. Again, I do not lik ..read more

Why I chose slow living instead of quiet quitting.

The choice to slow down one’s life is not the easiest of choices to make. Sure, the whole slow living aesthetic seems super chill and relaxing – just intense self care. However, thereality of slowing down is hard, and the sacrifices to make are not easy to stomach. Before you pare down your work/social life, do take a step back and think “Is it really worth it? Can I afford to do so?” For me, it set me thinking. Is slow living similar to quiet quitting? Quiet quitting involves burn out, work dissatisfaction, disillusionment of their value and perceived validation under the corporate ladder ben ..read more

I have not been writing in a long time. The reason being that life the last 3 years was tumultuous, to say the least, as mentioned in the multiple posts prior. The past 3 years were stressful because: Being placed in the role to lead a team in a fast-paced SME was not for me. Deaths I had to go through: My first dog My grandma, who took care of me during my childhood, to cancer. (This sucked balls so hard) My husband’s cat to cancer (A terribly painful death which I do not wish upon any animal) This Jan 2023, I lost a foster cat. However, she lived up to an impressive age of 25 (116 in cat ye ..read more

2022 taught me: Self-love is top priority before you can make sound decisions Minimalism is extremely hard, but yet again, has helped with Ockham razor-ing my life. Upskilling yourself is for you to prioritize. Not your company’s. If you need to attend a course to level up, do it. Some sacrifices are worth it, but do play your cards right. Communication is important for healthy relationships to diffuse misinterpretation To be brutally honest with myself about my abilities and weaknesses. To love selflessly, if those things/people pass your litmus test of trust. To age gracefully. To live a ..read more

Bucketlist-ish, but definitely one for the birthday. So, I treated myself to a taxidermy workshop on my birthday. Not oddly enough, I was the only one there. If you’re (a) in Singapore and (b) wanna try this workshop out, check out Black Crow Taxidermy in Singapore. The day started out rainy, but it was soon abated by easy directions to follow towards the local art scene campsite – Pearl’s Hill Terrace. Apprehensively, I took off my boots and stepped into the store. As expected, it was small, quaint but well-lit. The exhibits were well-organized and curated as well. The visual tour starts with ..read more

“Why is it that when you take breaks, you still need to reach KPIs?” This week, I was discharged from counseling. It was a huge win for me, in terms of my mental health. My mental health has been going down the drain since 2021. Having come from a mainly freelance background, I am mainly task-driven, perfectionistic, and highly independent. Great traits for someone who wants to complete task after task – but they become weaknesses when you have to lead a team with these high standards (and expecting everyone to follow them) and interdepartmental communication. You also have to swallow the bitt ..read more

Leaving Therapy
Minimalism In Singapore

As you may know, I’ve been going through a phase of anxiety and depression. Mainly because of work-related stress. Today, my therapist has discharged me from counseling! Why? Her rationale is that I am able to find affirmations of my decision-making as accurate, thus reducing my stressors. I have also managed to find ways to help reinforce these affirmations. What has this got to do with minimalism? With minimalism, comes this perception of contentment. I am able to be content and happy with what I have, what I can control and when I know I am logically sound. No, I’m not saying non- minimalis ..read more
