I’m back! Momentarily, of course. I just really needed an outlet to work out my TBR list because, whoo boy, it’s been getting up there. I am nearing the 600 mark and that’s not how I want to live my life.
As a reminder:
GREYSCALE = Books that will be REMOVED from the TBR list
COLOR = Books that will STAY
ABOUT THE BOOKS I’M KEEPING
I’m on the verge of letting Wintersong go, but I won a free eBook copy of it, so it’s just sitting on my Kindle waiting to be read. I’d like to think that I’ll eventually get around to reading it. The reviews are very mid, but I like to form my own opinion, especia ..read more

So, hey. Been a while. I could explain why I’ve been M.IA., but at this point, there’s nothing more I can say to explain my frequent hiatuses. Occasionally, I will just drop in and publish a post whenever. This is one of those occasional times.
I did some major reading last year. Most of my reading load, though, consisted of graphic novels/manga. I think I may have read less than 30 novels last year. Of those novels, only a few were standouts. The rest were either very mid or were not great at all.
Here’s a quick list of my top 5 best and worst (or most disappointing) reads from last year. The ..read more

Time to take a look at the TBR again to see which books will stay and which will be removed from the list.
Greyscale = Books that will be REMOVED
Color = Books that will STAY
About the Books I’m Keeping:
Lately, I’ve been more interested in Adult fantasy. Most YA fantasy is starting to seem very recycled. I think I may be growing out of a large portion of YA genres…that’s why I’ve removed many of the older ones on my TBR. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon and The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco had been popular a few years ago in the blogging community but I hadn’t been much interested in Adult f ..read more

While rereading some books might pose a problem, oftentimes rereading will solidify why you liked a book in the first place. And in some cases, it might even improve your original opinion of a book you might not have liked. Or in a more rare case, rereading might enhance your positive view of a book you already liked!
I reread so many books in the last couple of years and though some of them worked out the way I had hoped, most of my rereads just reminded me why I loved those books so much. And there were even a couple of books that got better for me after rereading them!
These are the books ..read more

For many years I avoided rereading books. There was only a handful that I would reread every now and again (By the Light of the Moon, Graceling, The Host, Twilight *for funsies*) but most of the time, I kept well away from rereading the books I loved. I didn’t want to ruin the experience or the memory of how much I enjoyed the book the first time around.
As you grow and age, your preferences eventually shift, sometimes infinitesimally, but more often immensely. At some point, the very tropes, clichés and story beats you once loved no longer work for you, and occasionally you’re unable to accep ..read more

A while back, I used to do monthly Down the TBR posts, but I’ve been remiss in posting on my blog and maintaining my TBR lately. So much so that my TBR is heading back to the 500s range again.
Now that I have a better understanding of my current preferences, I think it’s time to look back at my ever-growing TBR to restructure it into something more reasonable and representative of my interests.
I’ll be doing these lists in big chunks so that I can get this done more quickly. That way, I won’t have as much time to keep adding books to my TBR. The longer I leave it alone, the longer it gets

I read a lot in 2021. More than I’ve read in recent years. More, even, than when I was in college and had an abundance of free time. I read a lot, even though I was obsessed with Chinese dramas and MXTX novels for 6 months straight…
There was so much going on in 2021, but I found solace in reading. I established a reading schedule that worked for me and I also made frequent use of the public libraries. I was reading so much that I took part in the OCPL Centennial Challenge, in which we had to read 100 books. According to my Goodreads, I did just that, and more.

Let’s not talk about how long I’ve been gone. Let’s talk about bromantic (gay) Chinese dramas instead!!!
This summer was officially my introduction to Chinese BL xianxia dramas. I FELL HARD into two fandoms, y’all. And I don’t think I’ve completely resurfaced since then. I’m still really confused about how I got to this point but I ain’t mad. Now I’ve discovered a few amazing C-dramas, manhuas, and donghuas. And my world just keeps on expanding.
For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about:
C-drama – Chinese drama
Wuxia – Genre of Chinese fiction centered around the martial arts
