Paranormal Romance vs. Urban Fantasy There are probably a million and one PNR vs. UF articles out there describing the difference between the two. So you may ask why am I posting yet another one? Well, for one because I can. But also because there’s obviously still confusion out there about it from what I see in the book community, so I suppose one more article about it wouldn’t hurt. lol At this point, I think I have a pretty good understanding of the difference between Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy, so for anyone who doesn’t feel like they have a grasp on it, I made a pretty little ..read more

Keeping Track Of Book Series’

Keeping Track Of Book Series’ My favorite type of books are books that are apart of a series. Why? Well, I think that it allows us to get to know the characters and world better, and become more apart of it. But sometimes it seems like authors and publishers make it extremely difficult to follow a series in order. A post by Jennifer from Little Shelf got me to really thinking about this some more. I’m a big read-a-series-in-order-only kind of girl. I refuse to read them out of order. If a book later in a series looks good, I start from the beginning. Even if there isn’t really much of a conti ..read more

Reading Ruts & Methods For Overcoming Them

Reading Ruts & Methods For Overcoming Them Today I want to talk about reading ruts. After Thanksgiving week when we had family in town (and I got very little reading done) I was having a hard time getting back on track with reading. I just couldn’t seem to get into the books I was choosing and so I officially declared it a reading rut. Of course most of us have them at one time or another, and I’ve had them in the past. It’s hard to say what exactly has gotten me out of them other than finally choosing a phenomenal book. But if it’s a new book you can’t necessarily know it’s going to be a ..read more

What Are Your Thoughts on Waiting Until a Series is Complete to Read?

What Are Your Thoughts on Waiting Until a Series is Complete to Read? First off, I’m mostly referring to Young Adult series’ that have a specific number of books planned (usually three or four, sometimes five). I’d love to hear your guys’ thoughts on this. I’ve had this on my mind lately because I’ve been trying to catch up on some of the YA series I follow and got to thinking about the YA series I enjoy the most — and wouldn’t you know it, it’s usually the ones I read back-to-back from start to finish. But if you read everything right when it comes out obviously you can’t do that (unless you ..read more

Cliffhangers: Evil or Epic?

Cliffhangers: Evil or Epic? The other day I was thinking about how I’m really in the mood for another EPIC series. After finishing the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning just recently, all other books have seemed to pale in comparison. It’s not like I’m TRYING to compare them, but it’s just hard to find awesome books after a series like that for awhile. So I was really wanting to find another series that I would find to be “epic” and it got me to thinking what exactly makes a book feel epic? I think it could be a lot of things. But I started thinking about all of the book series that I love m ..read more

Fairy-Tale Retellings, Yay or Nay? Photo: Kristhania | Design: imlovingbooks.com Since I’m in the middle of reading Entwined right now, it got me to thinking about how much I’m loving fairy-tale type stories lately. Ever since seeing the previews for the Red Riding Hood movie, and then reading the book, I’ve been on the hunt for really good fairy-tale retellings. I honestly did not think it would be so hard though! Sure, there are a lot out there, but it’s hard to find just what you’re looking for. That perfect mix of the old story with a little bit of darkness surrounding it; and perhaps a ..read more

Reading Books We Don’t Like

Reading Books We Don’t Like I was just sitting here thinking about my little problem that I mention often about needing to read a series in order. Along the same lines I have a problem putting down a series after I’ve started it. I put them on hiatuses sometimes, but I have trouble abandoning them altogether so I generally try to come back to them. However, if I have a problem with the series to begin with, then I generally tend to sludge through the rest of the books grudgingly. Is this any way to read though? I mean, I’m really thinking about it and it makes my stomach hurt to think that I ..read more
