“Ducks in a row” comes from building ships in the past, whereby the duck is a device that holds the keel in place while building a ship.  Step one when building a ship is to get the ducks in a straight row thus ensuring a straight keel. Today, lasers are used to ensure the ducks are straight, but the analogy remains the same – you can’t build your ship unless you have the foundations accurately in place. So let’s use your company’s USP as an example. The first duck that came to mind for me when setting up The Internal Recruiter, was asking myself “Why am I doing this ..read more

“If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.”- Amit Ray (Indian author, and spiritual master. He is known for his teachings on meditation, yoga, peace and compassion) Everyone at present is looking for answers; life isn’t that easy, and these answers sometimes take a while to come to fruition.   To be able to look at the future you must look at your present status, learning from the past, to improve or develop new work practices.  For example, increase productivity, streamline business processes, reduce overspending, build mo ..read more

As I mentioned in Part 2, we are now forced to stop and think –  we must focus on our future and map out what we can do now to stop the headache becoming a migraine. Worrying will only drive you into a pre-lived future, drawing you from the present.  This can reflect on two sides – either worrying makes you take action to find a solution, or alone it manifests doubts, fears and negativities. So at present, people are currently working from home, your business feels disjointed and morale is tough to sustain, but you will need to put a plan in place to ..read more

A time of despair and reflection allows you to stop and think. In our case currently, we do need to think quickly but my point is, to think ahead you do need to stop for a moment and possibly take a different pathway to reach your destination. Your plans for 2020 will be affected by what we are currently experiencing but look at the positives and alter your strategy slightly. People planning is always a challenge and recruitment is always last on the to-do list, but use this situation to put your ducks in a row for the future. The Government is introducing a new National Living Wage (NLW) increase by 6%, which will allow low-paid UK staff to earn nearly £1,000 more per year.  The NLW is the hourly rate depending on age and if they are an apprentice.  “Hard work should always pay, but for too long, people haven’t seen the pay rises they deserve,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement. The pay rise comes as Britain has seen its unemployment rate fall to its lowest since the 1970s with employment recently hitting a record high.  The changes would benefit 4 million people. This saying is a metaphorical phrase which means basically you shouldn’t prejudge the worth or value of something by what you first assume!  Here below are mistakes in the recruitment process which could cost you by employing the wrong person overall. CV – Employers – there’s more to a person than words on a PDF or Word document.  Read the whole CV, from their profile to their interests.  Understand their journey and don’t just look at their most recent job role.  Everyone has to start somewhere and we don’t all start at the same place.  Some are late starters to fi ..read more

Let’s face it, if the deal is done or not, will this really change much in the way of recruiting your next staff member?  The recruitment industry isn’t fazed; we know that if you plan to hire, it’s because you don’t have the capacity within the business to deal with work demand and by not having a fully equipped team in place only reduces productivity, which means sales revenue goes down. Recruitment is always needed and if anything it’s the likes of the media adding fear into the mix, however, there are some pre-Brexit implications that need to be consider ..read more
