I’ve spoken with quite a few of you this month who were dreading this week due to the typical April 15th tax date. I get it. It’s hard to buy coins when you have possible payments or unknown returns coming your way. This is the first time that I can remember the Central States Show being pushed back so far into April that it might actually help us forget the Ides of April. That being said, we can feel your concerns. So, if you need a layaway on an upcoming coin in auction or found the piece that fits your set and it’s sitting on our website, don’t forget about our interest-free layaway progra ..read more

Coins We Love: Baltimore was Just "Fine"

This week is Spring Break for my kids, so we are enjoying a few days at the beach. As a result, I’m a little bit less involved with the ongoings at the office, but it’s a welcome respite from the last six months of travel. The naps, waves, sand, and books are doing their job in anticipation of a big series of upcoming auctions. The recent Baltimore show felt a bit like "Groundhog Day" as it was a repeat of a familiar place and story. The typical pre-show trading on Tuesday and Wednesday was fine. It wasn’t a glowing experience or a terrible one, it was just fine. Yes, we secured plenty of coi ..read more

Unfortunately, a last-minute family issue prevented me from attending the ANA Midwinter in Colorado Springs last week, but Andy and John Call held down the fort and made us proud in the middle of a blizzard. This week, I am part of the team going to Baltimore and we’re set up and ready to go on the bourse today and Friday. Overall, the pre-show activity was active and we managed to snag several interesting pieces. The buying has been quite good and was a pleasant carryover from the ANA event. If you’re in the Baltimore area, please don’t hesitate to stop by our booth as we have some truly ama ..read more

This week we have our team at the snowy ANA Mid-Winter Show in Colorado. As they return home, the next group tags in heading to the Whitman Baltimore show. So, if you see coins on our website that you want us to bring along, please email us at coins@davidlawrence.com so we can get them up there while there’s still time! Thankfully, there’s no snow expected in Baltimore! Spring has sprung in Virginia Beach and we’re hoping that the groundhog was right and that it’s here to stay. As the weather gets nicer, we continue to make improvements to the website as the new Red Carpet Rarities Auctions a ..read more

I can honestly say that I don’t think that we’ve ever had so many coins come our way here at DLRC. Maybe we have had more in quantity at some point, but as far as quality goes, this is a unique time. As some of you may have seen, we announced the release of select coins from the D.L. Hansen Collection this week that are now part of our Red Carpet Rarities auctions. On top of that, we just brought home a fantastic type set that will be coming up for auction, a wide variety of high-quality eye-appealing 20th Century pieces, a deal of shipwreck coins, and 20 AU/BU rolls of Morgan and Peace Dolla ..read more

Happy Leap Day! It feels like years since I’ve been able to say that. Yes, that’s today's bad dad joke. I think it’s just the exhaustion of traveling this week! Most of us have made it home from our adventures, except for the team at the Philadelphia PCGS Show. If you’re in that area, stop and visit with Julia and Amandeep tomorrow! The week has been successful as we picked up a really neat consignment (we’ll announce it in the next week or two), bought a collection of Shipwreck coins, and procured a few coins for inventory from my brief stop in Philadelphia. We’ve traveled over 2,000 miles a ..read more

There is a growing crescendo of activity here at DLRC, working its way through the office and into the numismatic world. With the onset of our new auction series, the Red Carpet Rarities, we have seen new bidders and new consignors clamoring for a piece of the pie. The deals just keep coming! Representatives from DLRC will be in New York, Northern Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and perhaps New Jersey in the next three weeks alone. So, if you’ve been considering consigning with us or selling your collection and you live in one of those states, now is a great time to reach out, sin ..read more

Coins We Love: Life on the Road

Life on the road continued this week with a jaunt to Salt Lake City, Utah. I had the privilege of sorting multiple sets of coins and finalizing the primary sets in the D.L. Hansen Collection. We’ve sold quite a few triplicate issues in the past and many upgrades have been made over the past few years, so a regular visit was necessary to sort out the best of the best. This was a thrilling, yet daunting, project as some of the duplicates are incredibly stellar. It makes it hard to say, “This coin just isn’t as nice as the higher grade one...” In some cases, I saw the duplicate before I even kne ..read more

One of my goals running for the ANA Board of Governors was that I wanted to reach out and learn more about parts of the hobby that were unknown to me. I looked at this honor as an opportunity to not only learn more about how I could serve the ANA, but also how to better myself and DLRC at the same time. One of these aspects was to learn more about the world coin market, ancient coins, and try to experience other coin shows that I had not attended. As a result, I decided to do something that had long been recommended for me to do, and that was to attend the World Money Fair in Berlin this wint ..read more

Coins We Love: There's No "Right Way"

This week I’ve been traveling a lot, but it’s allowed me to think about some conversations I’ve had with customers over the last few weeks and about the “culture” of numismatics and how things differ between collectors and collecting styles. It’s quite interesting, as there’s no “one way” that folks find their way to the hobby. And it’s the same situation when the time comes to sell. I’ve dealt with a wide variety of collectors lately. Some remain very tied to their collections, but for some reason, it’s the right time to move on. But, some don’t have that long-term magnetism towards their co ..read more
