The good news is they can’t possibly play worse than they did the other night.
Right?!
The Ottawa Senators host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night at the Canadian Tire Centre.
No Tim Stutzle after he was banged up a little bit in that ugly loss to the Panthers. Boko Imama has been recalled to fill a spot up front. Thomas Chabot returns on the blueline.
Frankly, I have no idea how Jacques plans to line ’em up.

Okay, okay I’m back.
Although full disclosure, at this point I am 100% convinced that I am the problem. During the first period of last night’s convincing win over the Buffalo Sabres, I was nowhere near a television. It doesn’t happen often but in this case, I didn’t even know what the score was.
By about 7:30, I finally had a chance to check-in and learn that in what was basically an unprecedented start, the Senators had blitzed the Sabres for five unanswered goals.
Well I have good news and I have bad news, depending on where you stand on the whole tanking thing. I am going to be watching th ..read more

It’s hard not to take it personally, at this point.
The problem wasn’t roster composition or coaching or goaltending or a horrible curse that hangs over the organization and the city. No, it would appear that the problem was Game Day posts.
But I got bills to pay, damn it.
The Ottawa Senators are right back it less than 24 hours after an impressive road win against the New Jersey Devils. This time, they host Connor McDavid and the rest of the Edmonton Oilers.

Ya know, in the middle of the summer, we’ll long for moments like this.
The Sens, in a real live hockey game, right here in the city in which we reside. Televised! Tickets available! Truly, truly blessed.
The Ottawa Senators continue their existence tonight against the St. Louis Blues.

Claude Giroux is probably out tonight. Anton Forsberg starts. And, I do believe that’s all I wish to say about this evening’s match-up.

Hmm.
It would appear that the Ottawa Senators heard all that tank talk over the last week or so and have decided to just win out instead.
The Senators look for a third straight win when they visit Patrick Roy and the desperate New York Islanders.
It’s been well-documented that the Sens don’t have a lot left to play for down the stretch and that’s something we’ve seen a lot of around these parts over the last uh decade.
But if there is any joy to be found in these meaningless games down the stretch, it’s the opportunity to ruin things for other teams and fan bases. The Islanders are currently c ..read more

The Claude Giroux slapshot on a breakaway is my favourite thing. Or one of them anyway. And it ain’t close.
Hypothetically, if you were the pro-tank type, this woulda been one of those games that would have been good to lose in regulation. But if you’re going to accidentally win a game down the stretch, it’s best to do it in the most hilarious and spectacular way possible.
Mission accomplished.
The Ottawa Senators started poorly, were fine in the middle part of the game and then were kind of underwhelming in the third period and somehow all those things combined resulted in a 3-2 shootout win ..read more

A little bit more each day.
If the Ottawa Senators are ever going to turn this thing around, not this year but like ever, that’s the mindset they’ll have to take as an organization. Whether it’s Ownership adding to the front office, the front office tinkering with the roster, coaches changing the approach or the players finding another level, everyone has to consider how they can give a whole lot more.
Because this season just hasn’t been good enough. For anyone.
For a long time, it felt like the direction was clear. Like each season was building towards something. This year did not feel that ..read more

One thing I can say with complete confidence is that the love is unconditional.
Because here we are, on a Tuesday in mid-March, preparing ourselves for yet another meaningless game of ice hockey. It’s something we have become accustomed to around these parts but it really seemed like this year might be different. Ultimately, it was different. Somehow, it was even worse. With even fewer “meaningful games”. Remarkable really.
The Ottawa Senators continue the season from hell, this time on home ice against former/future-Senator Erik Karlsson and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
