Rebel Wilson Abandoned The Community

We at TheFatGirlShow are strong believers in bodily autonomy. I have no right to tell anyone what to do with their body. Your body, your choice. So while Rebel Wilson can gain or lose as much weight as she wants, she has no right to shame the community that built, and supported her, in the process.  Last month Wilson launched a new clothing line, R&R Club, consisting of literally two items. Named for Wilson and her girlfriend, Ramona Agruma, R&R Club sells a $179 white hoodie and a $149 matching sweatpant. Ignoring the ridiculous price, this equall ..read more

Brendan Fraser and The Whale
The Fat Girl Show

No one is denying that Brendan Fraser is a talented actor, in fact it is kind of depressing how many people are just now realizing this fact, especially that they're basing it on his performance in the offensively fatphobic film The Whale. Regardless of his talent, and his slight connection to the the material,  The Whale is an atrocious portrayal of fat people which could've been rectified with the involvement of actual fat people both behind the camera, as well as in front.  Over the last decade, conversations regarding casting have popped up again and ag ..read more

Peacemaker Season Finale - Why End on Fatphobia?
The Fat Girl Show
by

HBO Max's Peacemaker series wrapped up its first season today with an epic showdown between our team of misfits and the alien butterflies infiltrating Earth. As the episode unfolded, audiences are treated to scenes of badassery, especially from the kickass character of Leota Adebayo, played beautifully by Danielle Brooks.  As each of the 8 episodes ended, a mid-credits scene was tacked on with an extra bit of humor that likely was cut from the episode for time. For some reason though, this final episode, tied up the season with fatphobia and "concern trolling". All I can ask is: Why ..read more

Fatphobia in the Oscar Nominees
The Fat Girl Show
by
2y ago
With the Oscars a day away, quite a few films are continuing to make headlines. On their way to the Academy Awards, the incredible cast of CODA keeps picking up statues, allowing them to remind the industry that representation matters, authenticity matters, inclusion matters. Other films nominated in the Best Picture category have been making headlines for less positive criticism, including Licorice Pizza’s blatantly offensive racism. As with every year, the Oscars drum up discussions about diversity in film, but no one seems to be talking about the fatphobia baked into our entertainment. Ma ..read more
