Nastiriff burst onto the scene with a video for genre-bending debut “Suck It”
Texx and the City
by Mike Bower
22h ago
Upon first glace, new Cape Town-based rock band Nastiriff can’t help but be compared to early Fokofpoliesikar. Their style is fresh, their attitude is massively anti-establishment and their choice to combine English and Afrikaans music is genius. But that is where the comparison must end, and their debut single “Suck it” is the perfect introduction. Lead singer Gavin Willmers defines the genre as something other than punk, saying, “Some of the dudes in the band are really not keen on calling it punk. Because punk has got a very specific sound to it. Which we don’t quite fall into.” He continue ..read more

Porcelain Moon’s new single “Wishbone” is the start of new chapter for the duo

by Tecla Ciolfi

The first time I heard Porcelain Moon (then Emerger) was in 2018 when they submitted their debut single “Break & Fall” to TATC. That song won them the Avid & Abbey Road Studios International Song Contest out of approximately 5000 international entries, and their subsequent career has seen them craft some of the best synth-pop to ever come out of SA. But it’s this new phase of their career that bodes incredibly interesting things for the now-married duo. Their first single as Porcelain Moon (also can we take a second for the cute new name??) is “Wishbone”, a bittersweet nu-dis ..read more

This dress was perfectly sculpted to fit Tyka’s body, with the “Water” singer telling Vogue that she wanted to experiment and do something different for this year’s Met Gala.  Our girl is fast becoming a fashion icon, ma ..read more

Jamie-Lee Sexton plays a game of passion on new offering “Kiss Marry Kill”
Texx and the City
by Mikky Noire

Jozi-based artist Jamie-Lee Sexton is no stranger to the pop and R&B scene, with tracks like the soulful “Take a Moment” and the anthem-inducing “We Are Brave”. Yet, with  new single “Kiss Marry Kill” they dip their toes into something a little more intense – hyperpop. From its glitter, club-inducing vocal countdown “one, two, three, four” the track is an immediate injection of something new. Something glitzy, synth-heavy and sample-blitzing. Jamie-Lee Sexton moulds their deep, soulful vocal timbre with a sound that harks back to the ‘2000s club-pop movements, but also introduces a sl ..read more
