Lemony Strawberry Gin Fizz
Drinking with Chickens

This post features a gifted bottle of Feather & Folly Gin and is intended for a 21+ audience only. This foamy, sweet-tart drink is modeled after the infamous Ramos Gin Fizz…if you’ve been around for awhile you know that the RGF has been my home bartending nemesis for years. Why you ask? Well, to begin with, legend has it that the original (read more about it here) needed to be shaken for 12 minutes and required the shaker to be passed off to multiple bartenders to achieve that long of shake. Gawd I’m a sucker for a drink that has a legend. But anyways—it’s that long AF shake that ..read more

A Tour of Our New Chicken Coop
Drinking with Chickens

*This blog post features gifted products from spoonflower.com as well as other affiliate links. Whew. It has been a LONG road to get here, but the chickens are finally moved in and living in their brand new coop. In case you don’t know the backstory here, we sold our previous home of 15 years back in the fall of 2021 and moved in temporarily with my mom while we hunted houses. The chickens went from living the good life in their old coop, to living a pretty medium existence in a dog run in my mom’s garage. The garage life at my mom’s house. That “temporary” situation lasted 9 months ..read more

How I Garden with Chickens
Drinking with Chickens

This post is brought to you in partnership with Gardener’s Supply Company and includes affiliate links. There is no single garden-related question I get more than: How do you keep your chickens from destroying your garden? And I get this question ALAWT. Because if you have chickens, you know the struggle. They can turn a luscious garden into a post-apocalyptic hellscape in 15 minutes flat. So why do we all still try? Why do we all seem to want our chickens to coexist with our garden when we know—WE KNOW DEEP IN OUR SOULS—they only crave destruction? I don’t have the answer to the why ..read more

I could not let the holidays pass without a new eggnog recipe. I SIMPLY COULD NOT. It is my family’s go-to holiday drink. This Bourbon Gingerbread Nog just might be my most favorite eggnog recipe that I’ve ever made…and that’s really saying something because there’s been ALAWT of them. But I probably also say that every year about every recipe. I like a little hyperbole with my nog. Here’s a quick little eggnog recipe round up, in fact: Boozy Brown Sugar Spiced Nog Carrot Cake Eggnog Boozy Pistachio Eggnog Pink Nog No.005 Spiced Orange Nog The Nog Plus, you’ll find a couple of origina ..read more

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Exotico Tequila intended for a 21+ audience only. You can’t really beat a frozen margarita in the summer—unless it’s a triple-layer frozen margarita in the summer. And then you don’t have to choose which melon flavor to go with—just do them all: watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew. Decisions are hard. Let’s avoid making them. And of course, we are all about spiking this beautiful slush with Exotico Tequila Blanco because its bright, clean flavors could not be more on point with fresh summer melon goodness. It’s our go-to tequila around here. Lay ..read more

The New House of DWC

Well…..this selling-of-our-beloved-house-and-moving-in-with-Gail-temporarily-while-house-hunting has been a very, very wild ride. But for all intents and purposes, it could have been much, much longer of a ride in this batshit market, so we are definitely counting our blessings. Also we are really counting those blessings because WE LOVE THIS FREAKING HOUSE. We truly feel like we were meant to find it and we are absolutely beside ourselves over it. The front of the house. How bout that dirt. The flippers put that in and called it “modern landscaping”. A little background on the house: it is ..read more

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Exotico Tequila intended for a 21+ audience only. I am never ever ever mad at a piña colada. Especially when it’s not a fussy frozen one, and especially when it’s made with Exotico Tequila Blanco. YES THAT’S RIGHT. Tequila Colada. We are doing this. And we’ll give it a fresh little floral twist by adding in a touch of elderflower liqueur just for funsies. I really love Exotico Blanco. Its bright, peppery-fresh flavor is such a nice addition to sooooo many summer cocktails. And the bottle looks really nice next to this particular chicken. Just say ..read more

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Exotico Tequila intended for a 21+ audience only. If your celebration doesn’t include a bottle of Exotico Tequila ON the table and chickens chickening around UNDER the table…then I’m not coming. JUST KIDDING. I’ll still come, but I’ll bring the tequila and the chickens. You’ve been warned. This festive Pepper Jelly Paloma is definitely anything but traditional. But it is just the ticket for Cinco de Mayo if you’re looking for something simple, a little sweet, a little tart, and just the slightest bit savory. That pepper jelly adds an interesting s ..read more

Lost Grasshopper

We have been soooooo excited to get our hands on the new Lost Irish Whiskey and it just felt right to put it in a little green cocktail for St. Patrick’s Day. But make no mistake—this tasty triple-distilled spirit is lovely both in and out of a cocktail. It’s a fascinating combination of all three styles of Irish Whiskey: grain, malt, and pot still and then they go and finish this stuff in casks from all over the world. WHAT?! Gimme dat. It is soooo delicious to sip—almost sweet with a hit of spice and a pleasantly creamy mouthfeel. I like it alawt. But you know I love me a Grasshopper varia ..read more

The Farmhouse Garden: Before + After
Drinking with Chickens

After. Yes. We sold the farmhouse (if you want the nitty grits on that, read this). But I never got to share the befores and afters of the yard and garden renovations, and frankly, those were my favorite parts. So I’m doing it post-sale, and that’s kind of weird, but yanno….I’m weird. Let’s do this. Before. Cinderblock, anyone? My gawd the backyard was a wreck when we bought it. It was such a wreck that I never even walked through it until after we officially bought the place and had the demo guys clear it out. The weeds were up to my head in some places and I was pretty convinced it was rat ..read more
