Many, if not most, classic arcade cabinet control panels have a slight tilt upwards away from the player. Offhand, it looks a bit uncomfortable for the player. Also, coins would tend to slide off the panel. Is there an explanation for this design choice?

I’m new to collecting, and I think what I have here is an original 1942 arcade. It powers up and plays great. I’m reading online that there were conversions done on some cabinets. So I don’t know if this is an authentic one. Can anyone tell by looking at it? I can provide more pictures if need be. I think I got it for a good deal ($400).
