Mainframe Apprenticeship

I am in the process of applying for this apprenticeship for LaunchCode for a mainframe role. Does anyone have any experience with this program or this specific apprenticeship? I have experience in a previous apprenticeship as a software engineer for Google (which has no conversion) and a BS in Computer Science so I don't think it would be unmanageable for me to learn. I guess what I am asking is does anyone think the program is good? https://www.launchcode.org/jobs/training/mainframe-software-system-administrators-june-2024 submitted by /u/Radiant-Thing9009 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

EMPLOYMEN TIPS

Hi Everyone, I want to consult if it is normal to charge 200 dollars a month for a trainee position in Mainframe, doing a bit of RACF, IMS, CICS and REXX. I have 8 months of experience but I don't think I'm growing because you only see a little bit of something to solve a task and then you leave it aside to learn something else (and so on), I'm getting tired because I can't specialize in anything and I ended up forgetting the knowledge I had to learn (I have them written down to review them). I look for trainee/junior job offers in Argentina or anywhere that accepts remote, but I can't find a ..read more

I unload a series of tables in PROD so that I can use them to refresh non-prod. Does DB2 record the unload activity in a catalog table? I need to mine the data to produce a list of files so that I can transfer them to the non-prod LPAR. submitted by /u/mmcnary1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello, new to rexx here I was trying to create a copy of an array with this simple program: /REXX/ a. = 0 b. = 0 do i = 1 to 4 a.i = i end b. = a. do i = 1 to 4 say a.i b.i end return It prints 1 0, 2 0, 3 0, 4 0 Is there a way to copy an array to another one without using a cycle? Also if I create a procedure like Somm : procedure n = arg(1) m = arg(2) return m+n Is there a way Thai I can pass an array instead of a single variable? like Somm : procedure n. = arg(1) ?? m = arg(2) do i = 1 to n.0 s.i = n.i + m end return s Does it work? submitted by /u/Xgio64 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is the IBM z/OS Mainframe Practitioner Course enough?

I'm a self-taught web guy, but just an occasional weekend hacker at best. I say that to say I am confident that I could pick up COBOL if it was worthwhile, but I don't have a Comp Sci degree behind me. If I take the IBM Mainframe course (Coursera), would that be enough to get an entry level developer job at the IBM Z Career Fairs? I keep hearing everyone is going to retire and there's going to be a bunch of openings and the comp sci kids aren't really into mainframe stuff (if they ever were) so companies are "desperate" for replacements. But how desperate? Finishing the courses shows interest ..read more
