Exploring "FAITH", with Chris Suspect
StreetPX | Photography Podcast
by RE Casper and Jim Watkins
5y ago
FAITH is an engaging visual story about the often underrepresented gay African American community, their lives, their faith and their response to discrimination, both racial and religious. We enjoyed our talk with Chris Suspect, so much the last time, we simply had to get him back in here to discuss the stories behind the imagery in his upcoming book, FAITH. In Washington D.C., Chris Suspect, like most days, stumbles upon interesting scenes and characters. These subjects often become (usually) unaware subjects for his camera. However, one of these chance moments lead to something m ..read more

StreetPX | Photography Podcast
by RE Casper and Jim Watkins

At the age of 25, Katie Jett Walls was given an old Minolta SRT201 film camera by her father. It was well used and the light meter was broken, but with full manual in place, she drove through the mountains of Virginia, gaining knowledge on the basics and found herself instantly hooked on photography. After accepting her fate, she decided to attend photography school in Oklahoma City and while there had the chance to work in the darkroom a LOT. In our discussion, Katie believes that starting with film offered her an advantage in learning in a more in-depth and detailed process. Professionally ..read more

StreetPX | Photography Podcast
by RE Casper and Jim Watkins

Our discussion with Stephen Somerstein proved to be so fantastic (and long) that we simply could not bring ourselves to cut it into a singular episode... So, we broke this one in half and today we are publishing Part 2 of this very special, and extended discussion on documenting history. We hope you enjoy this continued discussion, as we expand on Stephen's battle with Paramount Pictures for using his images without explicit permission during the creation of the Emmy award winning documentary "Selma", selling a large format photo for a very high price tag during a charity event for Elton John ..read more

"Iconic"... This is the only word that comes to mind when we talk about the work of photographer and scientist, Stephen Somerstein. Some how, some way, StreetPX had the honor of flipping on the mics to discuss Stephens experiences for well over 3 hours and since we did not want to lose a single syllable of context… We made the executive decision to split this into a 2-Part StreetPX Special… with the first half available today and the second planned for next week… Growing up in New York in the 50s and 60s, he was afforded the unique freedom of walking through the local museums and even handlin ..read more
