A Fire Before the Drey

The first thing which must be said about this book is that the cover is absolutely stunning. If the face of this novel doesn’t draw you in, then the premise certainly will. It is quite difficult to ignore a story with a beautiful cover design and a promise of adventure.  Now… Did the story deliver?  Personally, I think A Fire Before the Drey is a book full of potential. I won’t say it didn’t deliver, but it did disappoint in a number of ways. The first thing is in the writing itself. It was not very strong and read almost like the author’s very first book. When you promise an advent ..read more

Succession: Quest of Fire Book II

Book Reviews RSS I love good Christian fantasy! I LOVE good Christian fantasy! I LOVE GOOD CHRISTIAN FANTASY! Gosh, it feels good to get your hands on something that is good and clean and CHRISTIAN! Armstrong’s Succession is a success (yes, I did that on purpose. Ha!) it feels like an epic packed into just a few hundred pages. If I had a single complaint, it would be that it is too short. I wanted more of it before I was even finished. I’ve been blessed enough to read and review the first novel in this series; I remember making a comparison to Game of Thrones in my last review—I’m going to d ..read more

Thirteen Miracles
The Rebel Christian | Book Reviews

Book Reviews RSS I was introduced to Thirteen Miracles a few weeks back, and my first impression was that this book was a Christian horror story. I don’t see many horror novels in the Christian market, so I was happy to dive into the book. Unfortunately, my assumptions were wrong—this book is about a spiritual journey—but it’s still a great read and the opening gave me the chills! Maybe it’s because I decided to start reading at 4 in the morning, huddled in bed with my phone glowing dimly, but the first part of Thirteen Miracles is pretty dark. After experiencing the trauma of losing a loved ..read more

Book Reviews RSS Something I don’t do very often on The Rebel Christian is review books released by bigger name publishers, but I really want to introduce more Christian books to readers and I’d heard a lot about this so I thought I would read it and give it a feature. I wish I had listened to my gut and not spent that 10.99…. But since books cost money and money isn’t free, I grinded my way through as much as I could and here I am, ready to put together some sort of review to make myself feel like this wasn’t a complete and total waste of my time and money. Here we go… First off, I hate pos ..read more

Book Reviews RSS This review is near and dear to my heart because it isn’t for a book that was given to me, it is about a book I personally played a role in bringing to bookstores and readers. Too Young is a middle grade Christian fantasy book by debuting author, A. Bean—and it is the very first release of The Rebel Christian Publishing! I am so excited to see this on the shelves and in the hands of readers and I’m excited to share it with you! There are some of you who have been with me for the last 5 years; you remember when this website was just a small blog where I posted reviews for ind ..read more

The Dragon's Prophecy
The Rebel Christian | Book Reviews

Book Reviews RSS I really wanted to enjoy this book and I tried very hard to stick with it, but the truth is that it simply was not my cup of tea. I was approached by Noel for a review and felt really excited to get my hands on a copy because Christian fantasy is my all-time favorite genre. The premise offered dragons, adventure, and strange talents—I really didn’t need much convincing to pick this up so I was a little disappointed when I started losing interest in the book. The first issue I had was the writing. Dragon’s Prophecy is edited pretty well and has an even pace, but the writing i ..read more

Tura The Traveler: Lineage Series Book II

Book Reviews RSS I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing the first book in this series on The Rebel Christian a while back. I remember being taken to a fantasy world by a lost princess and setting off on an amazing adventure. In fact, my only complaint about the first novel was the title of the book, haha! I have to admit, I was really nervous about reading this book because it takes place so far into the future after the first installment. I don’t like books that pick up exactly where the last book left off—with no time passing in between—but I also don’t really enjoy books that pick up ..read more

Jillian Dangerous and the Extraordinary Secret

Book Reviews RSS This is the conclusion to a two-part series that I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to follow. The book opens with a heart-pounding scene that quickly dissolves into a very innocent, almost laughable event. Jillian is the same brave and intelligent young girl from the first book but now she’s got a crowd of supportive friends who stand by her in this new adventure. While I say new, the truth is that this book feels very much the same as the first installment. I was a little surprised that so much of it took place in Vietnam. All the events that unfolded was interesting and t ..read more

Book Reviews RSS I have never read a Christian horror novel before, so I was very very excited when I got a copy to review. The first thing I want to say is that it is very creative! The words “Christian” and “horror” don’t really seem to go together but Thomas presents a very intriguing and entertaining story that slowly unfolds on the pages. I use the word slowly here on purpose because I think the pace of the story is a little slow at first. I don’t exactly blame Thomas for taking his time on this one; you really want to set up the scene when it comes to a one-of-a-kind book. The beginnin ..read more

Book Reviews RSS As a Christian I’m always hunting for good Christian books; I make it a point to review as many Christian books as I can because it helps support the community and it helps spread the word! So even though I don’t normally read children’s fiction, I was certainly willing to give this series a try when Ruthie Davis approached me for a review. The first thing I liked about the book was the title; it is very quirky and definitely tells you what you’re about to get yourself into before you begin reading. The story here is honestly a peculiar adventure! I am not a fan of time trav ..read more
