Contemporary masonry veneer construction consists of a single wythe of masonry, such as brick or stone, mechanically anchored to a backup structure, typically either wood or light-gauge steel framing or concrete masonry units (CMUs). Aurora’s historic 1885 Church Street Schoolhouse, an example of Victorian School architecture in Ontario, is set to undergo adaptive reuse as part of Aurora Town Square’s architectural evolution spanning three centuries.

Two Toronto projects are among the winners of the U.S.-based Brick Industry Association’s (BIA’s) 2023 Brick in Architecture Awards, an international design competition celebrating projects using fired-clay brick.
