Comment Hello! Welcome to Issue #216 of The Weekly SEO newsletter. This is an interesting issue, as a few of the stories (including the Post of the Week!) were posts from Twitter. People really publishing some quality work there, I guess! Thanks for subscribing and I hope you enjoy this edition of the newsletter :) The Weekly SEO Post of the Week Google's YMYL + Quora Problem I don't usually put a tweet as the Post Of The Week, but people don't usually write such killer longform tweets... In this tweet, though, Glen Allsopp knocked it out of the park. I analysed the top-ranking sites for 1,0 ..read more

Comment Hello again, The Weekly SEO readers! Yes, we're back in business, being consistent with these sends, delivering to you the most "can't miss" articles from the past week, as well as my thoughts on WHY they're important/what to do with this info. And yes, this email is supposed to go out on Monday, but I write these all day of (no AI, just my fingers on this keyboard) and Monday was kind of a ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT so I had to take time off (and Tuesday was spent putting most of this together). I live in northern Vermont and it was TOTAL ECLIPSE DAY, 100% TOTALITY DAY--right in my bac ..read more

Comment Hello! Well it's been a little while since you heard from this newsletter, so let me give you a quick update as to what is up. Last year (almost exactly a year ago) I, Sean, acquired this newsletter from Andrew Charlton--who had run it to 213 issues. I was pretty new to the newsletter space, and just figured I'd move the list to my OWN newsletter (RankTheory.com) and that was that. But I made A LOT of mistakes. I've been learning and getting better at the newsletter game over the past year, and when I realized I cleverly never closed the Curated platform down after acquiring the newsle ..read more

The Weekly SEO - Issue 212: GPT-4 and saving a $50k site acquisition - Mar 20th 2023

Comment Hi there ?, It's been 6 months since Google's last broad core algorithm update, and last week they rolled out a new one. As always, you can check out the search algorithm history here and we'll keep you posted when we see any useful reports on the impact on sites. In the last week, there was also the highly anticipated announcement of GPT-4. I've been fortunate enough to get BETA access, and it is similar to the previous models in many ways but doesn't seem to hallucinate as much, and the content output is far superior. If you're sleeping on this stuff, now is seriously the time to exp ..read more

Comment Hi there ?, While it looks like Google is in a bit of a standstill with Bard (I mean, any news?), OpenAI is set to release GPT-4 this week - and it will be multimodal. Here's a pretty good tweet on what that means in laymans terms. There has also been some awesome conferences in the last couple of weeks (that I've missed, sadly) but I've curated some of my favourite slides in this week's issue. My Post of the Week is by Glen Allsopp who has created an outrageously detailed piece of research on how 16 companies are dominating global search results. Here's a pretty staggering quote: "Acr ..read more

Comment Hi there ?, Some awesome articles in the last two weeks. In this edition we've got some techy brilliance from Trevor Fox showing you step-by-step on how to create a database, import Semrush data into it, and query it using SQL (using examples). In addition to that we talk about how search works, the history of PageRank, and an amazing deck by Aleyda Solis showing you how to embed AI bots into your SEO processes. Our Post of the Week is by Alex Johnson and Tory Gray. I stumbled upon their new, fantastic templates over the last week and I think you'll love them. They've created a keyword ..read more

Comment Hi there ?, Sorry I haven't been around! This is the longest time I've had off the newsletter since it started. It's been Crawl's busiest period ever in January and I also launched Formula God in Alpha. Nights have blended into days, and days have blended into nights ? It's safe to say I'm now back and getting into the weekly swing of things. My Post of the Week is from Glen Allsopp with the most detailed analysis into affiliate SEO I've ever seen. He analysed 10,000 product review search results to determine which websites are ranking. His findings shed light on several key questions ..read more

Comment Hi there ?, Surprise, surprise, another AI-dominated issue this week as Google calls in Larry Page and Sergey Brin to deal with the threat of openAI. @SalluMandya has been testing out Google's chatGPT rival, LamDA, and hasn't been impressed so far though! My Post of the Week is the The State of Technical SEO Report from Women in Tech SEO and Aira, which aggregates the insight from over 500 SEOs and 23 expert contributors. Definitely a few surprises in there, such as only 14% of technical SEOs being part of tech/engineering teams, despite 86% saying they work alongside tech/engineering ..read more

Comment Hi there ?, Some of the largest websites in the world are now using AI to write some of their content. Bankrate.com, one of the largest finance sites on the web has now started using AI to write some of its content. They're pretty transparent about it too, the AI author has the byline " This article was generated using automation technology and thoroughly edited and fact-checked by an editor on our editorial staff." Interesting. They're doing pretty well too, check out Kevin Indig's analysis of the content!. What do you think, would you trust this content? ? In other news, our Post of ..read more
