Paramount+ has announced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a fourth season. Currently season three is in production with plan to debut in 2025.  However, with the good news comes that bad. The annual CinemaCon was held in Vegas this week where the studios put on show and tells for theater executives to help get their support in promoting their various movie plans for the next year or so. As part of that Paramount revealed their movie plans. In an interview with Collider, Star Trek head honcho Alex Kurtzman provided an update on Starfleet Academy. To sum, the show is halfway done writing the 10 episodes of the first season with filming planning to begin this summer. Due to Star Trek's visual effects needs, the season will need at least another 8 months of post production so will likely not air until 2026. "It could end up not airing until 2026. We don’t know. The initial intent was a series but between unknown delays, budget cuts and star Michelle Yeoh winning an Academy Award and becoming busier than ever, a series was no longer a possiblility. Paramount is once again going to attempt to enter the theatrical space with Star Trek. However, its not Star Trek 4 which technically still in development. Instead its an origin story that takes place decades before 2009's Star Trek. The origin of what is not specified. This places the film firmly in the JJ Abrams Kelvin-verse of three 21st century theatrical films.
