Avocado is one of my favorite fruits in the world. It is creamy and tasty, and full of essential healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Avocado is a great ingredient to use in smoothies, sugar free raw cakes and salads. But avocado is also a great vegan butter substitute and does wonders for the skin. “Green heaven”: a gluten free and vegan raw avocado lemon cake We spotted this recipe for this sugar free cake on Weganon, an awesome Polish vegan cooking blog. Even if you can’t read Polish, I would recommend checking out his fantastic pictures! We adapted it a little ..read more

Blueberry banana muffins
No Sugar, No Cry

These sugar free blueberry banana muffins are a delicious and healthy treat. They have zero added sugars and are made with whole-wheat spelt flour to add some extra fiber. Even if they contain no added sugar at all and only whole grain flour, they still taste awesome! Healthy and tasty blueberry banana muffins Muffins don’t have to contain sugar at all to be tasty. I reduced the sugar to zero in these muffins and made them completely whole grain. The whole wheat flour gives these sugar free blueberry banana muffins a darker color and nuttier flavor, but I personally absolutely love that! Espec ..read more

Gluten free pasta al pomodoro
No Sugar, No Cry

If you love Italian food as much as I do, you will certainly enjoy this recipe for gluten free pasta al pomodoro. I cook pasta quite often and fettuccine are probably my favourite type of pasta. Even though I love pasta, I’m aware that the traditional way of preparing it might not be always very healthy. Most pasta contains a lot of refined carbs, and therefore lacks nutrients and fiber. This is why I have used a gluten free pasta made from brown rice for this recipe. Gluten free pasta from brown rice I found these gluten free fettuccine a while ago and I must say they absolutely exceeded my e ..read more

No Sugar, No Cry

Oats have many health benefits and since I like to start my day well, I almost always have warm oatmeal for breakfast. I usually boil my oats with some soy milk, almond milk or water and eat them with fresh fruits and mixed nuts. However, especially in summer, I sometimes prefer not to eat warm food for breakfast. That’s when I often make cold oats. Oats with yoghurt and your favourite topping This cold oatmeal is one of my favourite oats breakfast recipes, especially in the warm season. It is even easier to prepare because you don’t have to heat or boil anything and can literally eat breakfas ..read more

Pieces of castagnaccio This recipe for castagnaccio is truly one of my favourite recipes. It is extremely easy and quick to make, incredibly tasty, naturally healthy and sugar free. Besides, it offers endless possibilities for variations and looks extremely original as well. The bitter-sweet taste of chestnut makes you want to eat more and more of this cake! More than 400 years of history Simply put, castagnaccio is an Italian chestnut cake, with a history tracing back to the 16th century. It is, what they would call in Italian, a “piatto povero”, a “poor dish”. Once chestnuts formed the corne ..read more

Coconut cake with millet
No Sugar, No Cry

A sugar free gluten free cake with millet Millet gives awesome structure to any sugar free cake. It is also gluten free and can easily be used in vegan recipes as well. For long a forgotten grain, it can now be found in many organic shops and supermarkets as well. Millet: a forgotten gluten free grain? I sometimes think that millet has a little bit of an image problem. It doesn’t sound or look particularly tasty, it takes longer than bread, rice or pasta to prepare and most people have never heard of it, let alone prepared it. It’s not long ago that I found out about millet myself and even sho ..read more

A tribute to filter coffee
No Sugar, No Cry

From strong Italian coffee to filter coffee For a long time I didn’t drink filter coffee at all. I used to swear by good strong Italian coffee. Not a morning went by that I didn’t put my Bialetti on the fire and impatiently waited for the divine black juice to come out. Heat up a little home-made almond milk, froth it and enjoy another awesome almond milk cappuccino. A cappuccino with latte art But lately my mokas (cause I have quite a few) are standing around collecting dust and a new, small coffee machine for filter coffee has appeared in my kitchen. Why did I go back to drinking filter coff ..read more

A sugar-free diet in Asia: mission impossible Living sugar-free on holiday? After a couple of months in Asia and several cooking classes I can now truly say that eating sugar-free in Asia is an impossible mission. If I were to stick to my diet here for the full 100%, I probably wouldn’t be able to eat anything but bananas and peanuts. A cuisine full of simple carbs Forget about whole-grain, fiber or low carb diets: refined rice or rice noodles are at the basis of most cuisines in Southeast Asia. Besides that, I’ve learned that most dishes, even the ones you wouldn’t expect it from, contain a c ..read more

The Thakhek motorbike loop
No Sugar, No Cry

3 days, 2 people and 1 motorbike: we have just completed the famous Thakhek motorbike loop and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. Bear in mind that that is coming from a person who is sometimes difficult to impress, even at the sight of endless natural beauty. Don’t get me wrong. I love the outdoors and enjoy spending time in nature like nothing else. But it’s not like watching the sunset from the umptieth viewpoint is likely to make my blood flow faster or touch me emotionally. The Thakhek motorbike loop was different. Perhaps it was the adrenaline from driving this powerful vehicle ..read more
