This post is in paid partnership with Foodland Ontario, however, as always, all opinions are my own. One of my favourite desserts is baklava, but because of its richness, I only indulge occasionally. This lightened up healthier version of “baklava” allows me to enjoy the flavours more often! These Baklava filled baked apples were a win with my 2 year old and 4 year old girls, which is saying a lot. My 4 year old isn’t very adventurous with her textures but she enjoyed the baked apple as well as the nut mixture! I cut the baked apple in slices for my girls once it was room temperature, and th ..read more

Coconut Chicken & Vegetable Curry

I grew up eating a lot of curry. It was a staple in my house to the point that it wasn't really anything special. It was the same case for my husband so when we got married and moved on our own, we strayed away from traditional desi cooking. We still enjoy curries when we visit our parents' house or are invited over to someone else's house. On a daily basis we usually like to change it up with more baked items such as baked chicken, fish, or burgers. When I was at the grocery store this past week, I picked up a can of coconut milk for the first time. To be honest, I had no idea how I was goin ..read more

Today I woke up to political news that shook me in ways I never could have imagined. I spent the whole morning half-heartedly working but mostly thinking about what this would mean for my family. To be completely honest, I was ready to take the rest of the week off and stay offline to recollect my thoughts. When my 16 month old daughter woke up and I re-started my morning with her, something changed in me. Her laughter and overall excitement to start the day sparked something in me. It ignited the need for hope. Hope for a better tomorrow. As a parent, I will always work towards instilling ho ..read more

If you come from a South Asian background, when you think of mangos you are probably thinking of the juicy and sweet variety. While I absolutely love sweet mangos, I also enjoy firm, tart mangos to accompany my savoury dishes. A few years ago I tried a mango salad at a restaurant. Ever since then, I have been hooked on using mangos in salads! The trick is to buy mangos that are firm and not completely ripe. As we say goodbye to summer, we also say goodbye to the fragrant, sweet mangos. Most grocery stores will carry mangos that are firm and tangy year-round. While I normally add in sliced m ..read more

After I devoured my Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies last week, I was looking for another way to use up my pumpkin puree. There are so many possibilities but I decided to try my hand at Pumpkin Pie Granola. The result was a fragrant and delicious granola that reminded me of Pumpkin Pie. We were able to enjoy it throughout the week as a snack and for breakfast. I was so glad I made a batch of this Pumpkin Pie Granola! I have been making my own granola for about a year now. Ever since then, I have stopped buying cereal. I always thought it would take too long to make my own granola, but once I ma ..read more

While walking down the juice aisle, have you ever stopped for a moment to read the labels of your family’s favorite juices? It can quickly become confusing – from concentrate, not from concentrate, 100% fruit juice, cranberry cocktail, fruit beverage. This edition of “Simple Swaps” will help you better understand juice labels. After fruits have been juiced, the freshly pressed juice has two fates: 1. The fresh juice can be heated and condensed to make a final concentrated product. This is what you see in the frozen juice section, but it can also be reconstituted with water to make juices that ..read more
