Dealing with Loneliness

Loneliness. The very word sends shivers down my spine…. Maybe you’re an introvert and you crave to be alone… or maybe you’re an extrovert, and you crave people. Either way, I’m sure at some point in your life, you’ve experienced loneliness. For me, hardly anything is worse than that black pit in your stomach accompanied by the raw voice in your mind telling you that no one is there for you and no one cares. I shudder when the thought of utter seclusion enters my head. I want to know someone is there, that someone cares. Have you felt like that before? Usually my actions involve crying in my r ..read more

The Fruit of the Spirit: Gentleness and Self-Control

Hey ladies! Today, we finish up the Fruits of the Spirit! I thought I’d put these two together in this last post because they do go together, if you think about it, especially in how we act towards others. Definition: (Gentleness): not severe, rough, or violent; mild; moderate (Self-control): control or restraint of one’s feelings, actions, etc. I think that these two fruits go together because if you have one, you generally also have (or should have) the other. For example, instead of being overcome with fury for someone who mistreats me, I need to control myself and my anger, and treat that ..read more

Imagine our life on earth is this tiny wisp of breath.  It’s like the first rock in a driveway of millions of others.  And eternity is forever – a hurricane of wind, miles and miles long, endless amounts of gravel compared to our one, tiny piece. I don’t want to waste my life. This world is pulling me in a thousand different directions, and yet I stare at this screen and realize, wow.  All those things, they don’t even matter. If our life on earth consists of an inch of distance, why would we live for it when eternity goes on for miles and miles and miles?  Why d ..read more

“You wanna get coffee together sometime?” The famous line of old friends who’d like to catch up, the man bravely asking out that woman he’s interested in, and two people who have just met and decide they’d like to get to know each other better. The seemingly perfect setting for sitting down with someone and connecting with them in conversation, a coffee shop offers comfortable seating areas, a relaxed environment, and of course those delicious steamy beverages that give it its name in the first place. But I’m not really writing this post to talk about coffee shops, now am I? No, I ‘d rather d ..read more

Dear Social Anxiety

Dear social anxiety, You’ve been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and we’ve developed a very strong relationship over the years. I’ve learned to let you bully me and trample my self-esteem to the ground. The fear and anxiety you shove down my throat have become a routine. You rip any confidence I may muster up out of my hands wherever I manage to get a grasp on it. You make me feel so anxious that sometimes I pray that God will strike me down dead before I have to walk inside someplace, preventing me from having to go. I am always embarrassed. Always self conscious. I always h ..read more

You Are My Sonshine

“You Are My Sunshine”…the cheerful title of a song first recorded in 1939. Some historians claim that the song was written by a man named Paul Rice, who later sold rights to a Louisiana college professor by the name of Jimmie Davis. Others say that Jimmie Davis wrote and played it with his steel guitar player, Charles Mitchell. Whatever the case, it is a tune we are now familiar with as a rather popular kids’ song. As most of you probably know, the chorus goes as follows: “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, You make me happy when skies are gray, You’ll never know, dear, how much I love yo ..read more

Hope

Hope. It seems as if we’re all searching for it, but we can never find it. We search for hope in things that will, in the end, make us longing for more hope. What do you hope for? I’ve seen people and I myself have hoped for health, success, money, acceptance, happiness, peace, joy, and more. But what if we’re placing hope in things that will never satisfy us? What if we let go of the things we hoped for? What if we let go of longings and hope, and instead gave them to God? I have been realizing that nothing on this earth can truly satisfy our inner hopes and longings. One by one, I ..read more

The Fruit of the Spirit: Faithfulness

Hello, ladies! Hope everything’s going well for ya’ll. Today, we get to talk about faithfulness. I love this fruit, and I will explain why in a moment. Definition: steady in allegiance or affection; constant; true to one’s word/promises Faithfulness can be described in so many ways. Between us and other people, it can mean to simply be loyal to that person through thick and thin. Between us and God, it’s quite different. We have to have faith, and trust in God’s promises, and that He will carry us through all the trials of life. The story about the disciples trying to cast out demons in Chris ..read more

I live in a world where every 40 seconds, somebody takes their own life. I live in a world where there have been 154 mass shootings this year, so far. I live in a world where every hour, at least two people hear the words “you have cancer”. I live in a world where 50 unborn children die every hour from abortion. I live in a world where 160,000 teens skip school every day due to bullying. I live in a world where there are nearly 210 million orphans waiting for a home. I live in a world where 350 million people are fighting depression. I live in a world where it’s normal to see another murder on ..read more

Who Is Your Master?

Who is your master? Think about this question for a few moments and write down the first few words that come to your mind on a sticky note or a piece of scrap paper. Probably God, maybe some earthly authorities (like teachers and parents), right? But is God really your master? No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24 So… you can’t serve two masters. Makes sense, right? But that last sentence there – you can’t serve both God and money. Since when i ..read more
