To round off the 2022 summer holidays, we did a mini cruise to Amsterdam with DFDS Ferries. We did this in part to explore as Heidi has been asking for sometime to do a city break and in part; test the kids with being on a boat. Getting onto the DFDS Ferry The only place to do a mini cruise to Amsterdam with DFDS Ferries is from Newcastle. The port is based in North Shields just on the other side of the Tyne Tunnel. North Shields is around a 2 hour drive from Leeds but you can also get a bus or taxi from Newcastle to the port if you don’t drive and were taking the train. We were foot passenge ..read more

One of our finds in 2022 has been Walesby Forest Activity Centre, located near Mansfield, about 10 minutes away from Wheelgate Park. What is Walesby Forest Activity Centre? Walesby Forest Activity Centre is probably best described in 2 parts; the activity centre and the associated campsite. Now, we are definitely not campers and haven’t been camping here, but having spoken to others who have been, and they have said that the campsite is really good. Having been on the site, the toilet blocks look really clean and what you would expect. Kayak lake at Walesby Forest However, this blog post is b ..read more

An introduction to Ball Hockey Since the children got interested in ice hockey, namely the Leeds Knights, they have found a new sport to play and, if I’m being honest, get addicted to – ball hockey! What is ball hockey? In its simpliest form, ball hockey is ice hockey that is played on ground (rather than ice) and uses a ball rather than a puck. It uses the exact same equipment (apart from the skates!) and whilst there are minor rules that are different, all in all, it is the same game. Ball hockey training One important thing is that there is no fighting and no rough-and-tumble that you asso ..read more

This is my little corner of the internet, but there is a little bit of history that might be interesting. Here you can learn “about us“. Leeds Dad started out soon after me and Heidi’s mum broke up and I started going on amazing adventures with Heidi. It was a way of reminiscing about the great things we had done in the weekend before. On our first overseas holiday Being a single dad was hard and taking that step to go out and about was even harder. I hoped that writing about our journeys would inspire at least one person to go out somewhere different. Since I started this in 2016, I like to t ..read more

They play at the Planet Ice Arena on Elland Road, near the football ground. On match nights, you can park in the park and ride car park for £3, although if you’re going for a skating session, you can park in the Planet Ice car park for a little bit less.
