(ThyBlackMan.com) The idea to create a new Buckhead City finally died in the Georgia state legislature. And rightfully so. Democratic members of Atlanta’s state delegation never favored allowing the affluent, majority-white neighborhood of Buckhead to secede from the city of Atlanta. It became a measure long opposed by the city’s business leaders, while many of the city’s Black residents strongly believed it was racially motivated. The proposed Buckhead City ended when 10 Republican state lawmakers broke ranks, joining with Democrats in rejecting the measure. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp ..read more

Thy Black Man

(ThyBlackMan.com) Taking the time to talk to our children about morals and values is very important. As they get older, and find themselves faced with various situations, the words we have imparted to them will come back to them when they need it. It seems the words are more effective when we walk out in our daily life what we are trying to instill in them. Those moments are created by the habits our children pick up from watching us navigate life situations. This is also the case when it comes to spiritual matters.  Children, though they don’t realize it, crave order and routine. When we ..read more

$70,000 a Year for What? The Decline of Value in Higher Education.

(ThyBlackMan.com) I read somewhere that the annual tuition cost for one of these elite coastal universities is North of $70,000. I have not verified this because for fear it will send me into a coma. Even worse, this fee is for undergraduate school and not law or medical school. This I might add is for all majors, Physics and Chemistry to Post Colonial Fashion Design – 70K across the board. When I was in college, the cost was $5,000 a year and that was perceived to be an astronomical figure in 1980. If this is the case, it demonstrates that most colleges don’t care if you’re a lousy stud ..read more
