Nestled within the Ochil Hills, Alva Glen in Stirlingshire is an ideal wee nook for a scenic Sunday stroll. This walk amongst the Ochils is a little bit farther than our usual Sunday afternoon walks but an absolutely beautiful wee spot. We were here before spring fully sprung so it’ll be a lot more leafy & green now than it was in the pics. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ The walk through the glen begins at the car park. This is a little local place that the kids absolutely love going to for lunch or a wee hot chocolate and cake. Moyra Janes is an adorable, welcoming wee haven tucked away in Pollokshields, serving up heartwarming lunches, also breakfasts and dinners, freshly made cakes and by my kids account, the best hot chocolates in Glasgow. Sometimes, finding a place to eat with kids where the kids will choose something they will actually eat, and that us adults will also enjoy can be a bit of a challenge. We have been to a couple of different buffets, so thought it was time to give Cosmo World Buffet in Silverburn a try as we’ve only heard good things from friends who have been. The Glen Finglas reservoir spills over the dam into a stunning cascading waterfall. It isn’t a long walk, so don’t go expecting to be here all day, but there is loads to do in this area, and even within Glen Finglas itself. Plan a few stops and turn it into a lovely wee daytrip! Glen Finglas is about 20 minutes north of Aberfoyle over the Duke’s Pass. Park in the car park for the dam and it’s only maybe a 10 minute walk through the gate on the left to get to the dam itself. There are loads of exercise classes aimed at new mums and babies in and around Glasgow. You’ve got buggy fit, pre- and post-natal yoga classes, post-natal circuits and postnatal spin classes in several Glasgow Life venues. These are all great, and can be incredibly beneficial. But they are all aimed at people with babies; toddlers at most. There comes a point when it’s not quite as easy to take you walking, talking tiny humans along to these classes anymore. I’m always up for wrapping up in our waterproofs and going for a walk or to the park in the rain. But some months Glasgow just has far too many rainy days to force my kids out in the cold again. This is a Christmas event we’ve been along to for the past few years and the kids absolutely LOVE it. At this time of year M&D’s in Strathclyde Park has a Christmas circus, ice skating and real reindeer. There are storytelling sessions and you can visit Santa. And there are of course all the rides too. We visited for their press event at the beginning of December on an evening when it was -3ºC outside and let me tell you, it was freezing. One of the best things we started doing a few years ago was asking family to get the kids vouchers for days out or annual passes instead of toys. (They still get plenty of toys, but this helps to limit the amount of stuff coming into the house at this time of year. As we all know, there’s a lot of it!) Obviously a family membership for something is only worthwhile if you’re actually going to use it. On the way up to Pitlochry for our evening at The Enchanted Forest this year, we stopped at Taste Perthshire for some dinner. Taste Perthshire is a wee stop off on the A9 about 20 minutes south of Pitlochry. It’s like a lovely garden centre; with a shop, a restaurant, a little play frame for the kids to have a play on and some highland cows to see, or even to feed.
