It’s cabin fever time of year.  These last few weeks of winter seem to linger, keeping everyone cooped up inside, avoiding the cold air and the muddy, slushy mess that’s left behind by melting snow.  It’s been a while since I’ve had young children to care for. But when I saw the weary sigh of a mama at church recently, as she was bombarded by her youngsters after Sunday school class, it quickly brought me back to my own days as a young mom.  All that childish exuberance didn’t look so charming when it bubbled over inside my home on winter days! Inspired by those memories, I thou ..read more

I’m excited to introduce a brand new edition of the nature scripture scavenger hunt for you and your family to enjoy together! Spring’s been acting like a weekend teenager here in Michigan this year: It seems she wants to sleep in a little bit this year!  We’ve endured some late-season snow and send unseasonably cool days.  Still, the signs of spring are all there–buds on the trees, daffodils pointing cheery smiles as I walk by, grass softening and greening.  And I‘m hopeful for many walks and hikes through the outdoors in the months ahead! With this anticipation in mind, I deci ..read more

A fresh spring day shines outside my window as I’m sitting down to type this post.  Birds chirp sweet little songs.  The sun rests warm fingers on my shoulder.  Tree branches wave hello in the breeze, showing off the hundreds of bright green buds waiting to burst into leaf.  Nature’s reminding me of new beginnings this morning–inviting us all to remember that even in times of adversity, we’re still surrounded by God’s abundant love.   After months of struggling and juggling, isn’t it a gift to be reminded of kind and beautiful things? That’s why I’m excited t ..read more

With Valentine’s right around the corner, I thought it’d be fun to share a little “love gift” with these brand-new printable Scripture Cards! I put these fun little designs together when our church youth director asked me if I could create some cards to tuck into little Valentines’ gifts for the teens in our youth group.  These days, being a volunteer youth leader has been a bit frustrating: It’s hard to build connections when you’re limited to Zoom meetings because of Cov-19 and the frigid Michigan air!  So I jumped at the opportunity to do something tangible that will hopefully bri ..read more

*Download the Free Printable 2021 Calendar by clicking the blue button at the end of this post.* Whew. It’s been awhile, friends.  Like everyone else on the planet, my life’s gone topsy-turvy this year dealing with the physical and emotional realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Add to that the weight of political divisions and racial tensions.  It’s a lot, isn’t it? With the constant shuffling and reshuffling of life in recent months, time and energy for blog posts simply disappeared for a season. If 2020 has taught me anything, it’s been that sometimes you just have to let go a ..read more

What’s your “new normal” looking like these days?  It’s a phrase I’ve been hearing a lot lately as stay-at-home restrictions have gradually lifted and we’re figuring out how to live amidst a pandemic.  For me, nothing has felt very normal for three months now.  That structured, daily schedule I used to enjoy has tumbled into pieces like a Jenga tower that had one too many pieces removed! Can anyone relate?! Amidst all the uncertainties and challenges of this current season, I have enjoyed one beautiful silver lining: Without the usual slew of everyday distractions, we’ve be ..read more

When it comes to creating a great home for our families, we all want the same things: more calm, less chaos.  More progress, less procrastination. But how to get there? In a recent post, I shared a couple of homemaking equations that have proven true in my own life: Equation A:  everything + perfection = burnout Equation B: little tweaks + time = healthy progress It doesn’t take a math whiz to see that Equation B will ultimately create a more peaceful home: When it comes to scoring “wins” at home, little changes are the way to go.  We’re never going to achieve “perfect ..read more

(This post was originally published on March 27, 2018.  In light of the recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, I decided to highlight this post once again by republishing. I believe it’s just as timely for today.)   Anyone with an ear toward current events can feel it—race concerns are still raw and real in our country. Opinions abound on every side of the issue, and at all points in between.  Sometimes, as a white person, I’m not quite sure how to respond.  And so the temptation is always there to simply shrug my shoulders and do nothing at all. In recent years ..read more

Oh me, oh my. Where did the month of May go? Somehow, despite the fact that life in quarantine has slowed our family’s social life to a halt, time  still seems to be running at a sprint!  I’ve found myself with plenty of “at-home”  activities keeping me busy–things like sewing face masks or teaching grammar to my daughter, while still trying to keep up with the usual household chores and working from home. But it hasn’t been all work and worry: there have been lots of little blessings filling these “stay-at-home” days.  Baking with my daughter. Lunchtime conversations with ..read more
