Ich würde mich sehr über Infos freuen. submitted by /u/fliederminze [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can I Obtain a Work Permit B While Staying in Airbnb Initially Due to Difficulty Finding Long-Term Rental in Switzerland?

Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of relocating to Zurich for work, but I'm facing challenges in finding a long-term rental accommodation. As a temporary solution, I'm considering staying in Airbnbs for a short period until I secure a more permanent place. However, I'm unsure if this temporary arrangement would affect my ability to obtain a work permit B. I'd appreciate any insights, advice, or experiences from those familiar with Swiss immigration laws and the process of obtaining a work permit while initially staying in an Airbnb. Danke schön in advance for your help! submitted by ..read more

Lost Jacket in Zurich: Unexpected Finder's Fee - Normal Practice or Uncommon Request?

Hello everyone, I recently lost my jacket in Zurich, and thankfully, someone found it. However, during our conversation, they casually mentioned, "If you want to get it back, you have to pay me 20 CHF." While I was surprised, I agreed without much fuss. But now, I'm wondering if it's typical to ask for a fee in such situations, or if it's more customary for the person retrieving their item to offer payment. I'm also curious about what would be considered a fair fee for this service in Switzerland. submitted by /u/leoviet [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I recently got an offer from a Swiss company based in Zurich, I’m not sure whether to take it. Here’s the current situation, me and my wife have a 2 year old kid, I earn €6500 gross a month, my wife earns €3500 gross, net is about €6800 together. We have a house mortgage of €2300 per month, we can rent it out for the same price if we move to CH, the kid daycare(3 days per week) costs €800 per month after government allowance, there’s no more big cost. The new offer is CHF 8200 a month, 15% bonus if both company and myself reach 100% performance target, relocation allowance is CHF 2000 from NL ..read more

What do Swiss consider as "friendship"?

How long do people have to know each other or how often do they have to see each other to be considered "friends"? Also, how long to be considered "close friend"? I live in Zürich just a few months, and I've noticed people don't open up easily. I met one Swiss guy, we have similar interests, so we were mostly talking about stuff on "surface level", nothing personal. I'm kind of person that has no problem talking about personal stuff like 2 weeks after knowing them, so it wasn't anything special when one day while we were talking I felt I have a lot of trust in this person so I started talking ..read more

Can someone tell me what's going on with people nowadays? You meet someone, exchange messages, and maybe even meet up if things go well. But most of the time, somewhere between texting and meeting, you get this: "Hey, I'm sorry but I've realized I currently don't have the time to get to know someone, or I'm not ready to meet or get to know someone." Why the heck are you even on such platforms or giving out your number in the first place if you've been approached? You work, study, go to school, learn, and whatever else, and then you realize, oh no, it's too much for me, it's not going to work ..read more

Swiss savings accounts for kiddos

A couple of years ago when I was domiciled in Valais in a flat I oiwned (I’ve since sold it) I tried to get a savings/investment a/c for my (now) 11yo French-speaking Swiss grandson who hopes to go to uni in Switzerland in 7 years. Isn’t there a 529 (US) or JISA (UK) type account for Swiss expat kids? I applied to PostFinance and they checked with the commune to see if he was resident, which he wasn’t and isn’t, then said he can’t save with them. I had that even post-FATCA any Swiss anywhere could have a PF a/c. I’ve retained mine and I’m living in London with kiddo. submitted by /u/Cobil78 ..read more

I am moving out and have found that getting a wifi connection costs double what my unlimited 4g phone provider charges… I have found this to be sufficient even for getting internet in homeoffice, why should i pay for an expensive wifi connection? submitted by /u/Fabulous-Bluebird420 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
