On Career & Motherhood: Part 3

I’ve written about career & motherhood a few times already. Once right after I had my first baby and once during my pregnancy with my second baby. Part three of me writing about career and motherhood has been a long time coming. If you’ve stuck around over the past couple years, thank you. My firstborn, Caleb, just turned two last month and it completely blows my mind how wildly different my life looks now than it did two short years ago. Before Cal was born, I was working 40-60 hours a week between this blog, the private practice and the part time work I was doing as an NP on a inpa ..read more

What I’m Reading as a Non-Reading Convert

I have always been that person who wants to devour books. You know those people who curl up with a good book for hours and they enjoy it? That was wannabe me. For years and years I always thought I didn’t have as much time to read as I hoped. I read a book every couple months, but I wanted to read more. Well, enter quarantine life that coincided with a month long digital detox of sorts that I recently emerged from (and am still sorting out where to go from here after learning a lot) and I have come to find out I actually have way more time to read than I though. I just have to prioritize it ..read more

Intuitive Eating During Quarantine

Many of you said seeing some of what we are eating lately would be helpful when I wrote this post about COVID-19 last week. My hope is that this post on intuitive eating during quarantine (and these kind of posts in general) provide some insight for you around “normal” eating (which will look different from person to person, so really there is no normal) and simply, overall meal inspiration. Maybe you’re like me and eating a lot of baked goods because that brightens up your day, baking gives you a fun/creative daily outlet while you’re at home all day, and something sweet just satisfies your s ..read more

How are you? If I’m honest, in the beginning I was seeing a lot of silver lining in the circumstances with having Nick home (he usually works at a co-working space) and lots of family time and nowhere to be. But after 4-5 days, reality hit and now….things feel really hard. We are so fortunate as a family. Nick has a secure job and he is the majority of our livelihood. As an NP, I have job security. Nick, Cal and I are all healthy. Like I wrote in the newsletter I sent out a few weeks ago, things feel weird and fragile and uncertain. And understandably so, fear and anxiety can take up camp in ..read more

How I’m Starting Off 2020

My mind has been completely tuned out to new ideas and the desire to write. It’s like, “nope, not happening. try again later.” So I’ve waited and waited. And then as I was walking home with Cal on my back today after walking to work with Nick, I felt like I wanted to write once he went down for his first nap. That never happens. So here we are in the new year. The idea that came to me isn’t anything special. I just thought I’d share some things that are adding to my life as we begin a new year. Really, a new decade. The last couple months of 2019 felt like a blur. Life felt flipped upside dow ..read more

On not exercising I can count on one hand how many times I’ve gone out and intentionally moved my body in a structured way over the past couple months. I can’t even tell you the last time I went this long without structured movement. Postpartum was my longest period at about 7 weeks. Maybe I’ve never gone this long? Which isn’t something I’d consider as positive I don’t think. Life got really busy with interviewing for jobs and traveling and then moving and it’s not as if I couldn’t find time to squeeze in something quick, I could have, it just wasn’t a priority. I’ve never been a morning exe ..read more

I wasn’t planning on writing a post this week because we are moving Friday and I’m speaking on Monday in Atlanta at            Chick-Fil-A so it’s very likely the fullest week I’ve had in a really, really long time…but I felt like I wanted to put some words out into the internet this morning so here we are. It’s 6:29am on Tuesday morning and my apartment looks like it’s been ransacked. There is stuff everywhere. So I’m hiding out in our room because it’s the corner of our tiny apartment with the least amount of chaos typing away while laying in our bed. I’m someone who cannot function in clut ..read more
