From a high heart rate to cramps, here’s how to troubleshoot your way out of these common race day scenarios

Multisport races, specifically triathlons, have the understandable reputation of being hard to plan around and manage. As an athlete, not only do you have to learn and train for three sports, the logistics for each are also complicated by themselves.
Pool access, a decent cycling route or indoor setup, and a run venue are all important but often not easily addressed. On top of that, traveling to a race is a large production number; most of which revo ..read more

The biggest takeaway from tackling my first Ironman is how it is able to transform you into a better, stronger person
Lead photo from Getty Images/Unsplash+
When I started training for my first Ironman 13 years ago, there wasn’t a lot of knowledge readily available. Locally, only a very small percentage of the triathlon population had ever conquered the 3.8K swim, 180K bike, and 42K run in rapid succession. There was a lot of apprehension and even fear surrounding the “hardest single day sporting event.”
Fast forward to today, it’s amazing to see the sport grow. Not only do we have our own Iro ..read more

A new study shows that triathletes with a lot of a certain good bacteria or microbiome finish faster and better at Ironman

Athletes already know that what they put inside their bodies matters a lot when it comes to athletic performance. Decades of study in nutrition have already taught us the basics for a good foundation in winning.
What athletes may not all know is that what we consume is important for another reason: the microbiome, what’s in it, and our own personal versions of it. The microbiome refers to the slate of microorganisms an ..read more

Triathletes doing easier but longer sessions can allow you to nail your threshold sets better

As a new dad and father of two, training time has always been so precious to me. Back when I was young and single, I could easily spend weekends riding out and hanging out with friends.
But ever since becoming a father, I’ve taken on more responsibilities and shifted to training indoors 100 percent (for the bike and run at least). The reason why this works for me is that I stay up late to take care of the baby and get some work in. With an indoor training setup, I can wa ..read more
