Crain's Cleveland Business Opinion: Transitional housing next step for single mothers Since 1910, The City Mission has served tens of thousands of Cleveland residents struggling with homelessness and crisis. While our mission — providing help and hope to all people through the transforming power of God’s love — remains the same, our services have always adapted to the needs of the community. In 2014, The City Mission began a program dedicated to addressing housing insecurity in Northeast Ohio. Giving Tuesday Giving Tuesday is officially on November 29 and this year we are raising funds for 94 new StepUp Beds for our Crossroads residents. Currently, men at Crossroads sleep in metal frame bunk beds, which have begun to create barriers for those who are elderly or physically disabled. The average age of our male residents has increased, so climbing to the top bunk is no longer feasible. As new residents arrive, the number of easily accessible bottom bunks decreases. Every contribution makes an impact Reaching Hearts | Changing LIVES The City Mission is funded entirely by pr ..read more

The Inspiration for Laura’s Home…. Laura Hein Moll’s values and her life of discipline, sacrifice and hard work to provide for her family was a model and inspiration for Laura’s Home.  Born in Germany in the 1800s, Laura found herself widowed and homeless. She was committed to providing for her children by seizing opportunities and worked several jobs to supplement her meager income. Many times her six children gathered around an empty table to offer thanks to God and to ask for provisions. Their prayers were often miraculously answered by baskets of food left on their doorstep the nex ..read more

Wonderful Laura’s Home Graduation What a true blessing as we celebrated the graduation of 15 incredible women from Laura’s Home! They processed down the aisle in cap and gown to a crowd filled with friends, family, staff, and volunteers who stood beside them throughout their journey. Recent graduate, Karena Burke, gave a powerful testimony about her time at Laura’s Home. “I entered Laura’s Home on January 14, 2022. Praying for any place to lay down because I was physically depleted from the day, yet spiritually aware of what God had offered me. Rest, Response, Renewal, and Transformati ..read more

Ending Childhood Homelessness in Cleveland What are your fondest childhood memories from this time of year? Can you even imagine what it might feel like for a child who doesn’t have a home to return to at the ..read more

How Do You Stay at Home for COVID-19 When You Have No Home? Stay at Home. That was the order from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s office that went into effect in mid-March 2020. No one is immune to the effects of that crucial order or the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the shelter-in-place restrictions – including people experiencing homelessness. Already vulnerable to a number of health risks, the homeless population is highly susceptible to contracting and spreading the virus due to overcrowded shelters, lack of basic resources, poor access to healthcare, transient lifestyles, and several addition ..read more
