I just turned 24 and feel like I didn't achieve anything in my life. I also struggle making real friends and a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Is there hope? Will I finally find my purpose in life and will I eventually meet someone cool enough to be my friend or my lover? Or is it possible to have a purposeless and lonely life even if you're gifted?
I can't decide what I want to do of my life, it looks like there are too many choices...
And everytime I make a new friend, something eventually goes wrong (Friend makes new feiends and just stop talking to me, friend make a new boyfriend or girlfriend a ..read more

I’m currently working on a final project for my developmental psychology class. I’ve chosen asynchronous development in gifted children/people as my topic. While there is studies available online on this matter, I wanted to ask this group their opinion as well because the studies I’ve read seem to be written and conducted by non-gifted individuals, which I think may be falsifying to a degree.
I’m hoping some people are willing to share their experience with asynchronous development (developing at different rates in different areas i.e cognitive, social, physical, emotional). Do you feel your ..read more

never got ‘diagnosed’ as such but when I was 5/6 my school ran some tests and they found out my reading age was 15, and had developed extremely strong phonetic skills for that age. Also showed other signs of hyperlexia as a child. Is it uncommon for someone to be hyperlexic wih parents who have dyslexia? Are the genes linked in any way?

Hi all, Any tips/advice on fighting procrastination at work for doing simple tasks? I work mainly from home (as a jurist at a gov. body) and on days where I need to do a lot of straight forward contract reviews, I tend to be waisting more time scrolling social media and Reddit and researching a lot of non relevant topics (a new proposed law, ETFs, calculations of my spending for the next 5 years, the full moon etc.). And it keeps me mentally engaged but I fall behind in my actual work and then get stressed. I hate being like this.
:( help?

I’m a 28-year-old man, have a girlfriend, responsibilities, etc. but I still easily get upset by public encounters where someone is mean or rude to me.
I was just biking home and was at a busy cross section waiting at a red light (for bikes). When it turned green I gave some space for other bicyclists and merged. Before I knew it, someone from the other side started riding full speed, almost rode into my back wheel and snarled at me to watch out (her actual remark was a bit more mean but this is the closest translation). She could’ve held back her speed for half a second and there wouldn’t ha ..read more

Has anyone else ever dealt with this and how did you handle it? It's definitely tended to make me more resentful but I still want answers. I can't understand how a therapist could have a doctorate and still be weighed down by me.

Hello everyone,
My brother, who's 19 and heading to music university soon, has an incredible knack for the piano it seems. He's self-taught on guitar since age 8 and has recently taken to the piano with astonishing ease. On guitar, he played the original Scarborough Fair at age 9 for his school concert. Despite his intuitive talent, he lacks formal training and struggles with structure when creating music. On the first day of sitting down at the piano, from memory and intuition, he played most of 'Rondo Alla Turca' at full speed. And then Braveheart, some Beethoven etc etc.

I tried one a friend recommended me but after a couple of sessions, it didn't really seem to be worth the cost. Has anyone had positive experiences? I know there's no official definition of giftedness so I assume there's lots of charlatans and the like in this field.
