I currently work at a fire department as an EMT on an ambulance. I just got accepted into Paramedic school at my community college, but am having second thoughts. It’s been a rough few weeks with my leadership and I realize that I won’t have much career mobility as a medic if I want to leave a job, versus if I were a nurse maybe I’d have more options. I’m thinking about quitting my job and applying to the same college’s ADN program instead, I just need to do a few prerequisites. Would it look bad on my part to pull out of the medic program and apply for the nursing program? I am worried it mi ..read more

Hello! for context i am in my early mid 20's and I would like to start an accelerated nursing program in the bay area, ca. I graduated with my bachelor's in psychology. With a large family background in nursing, this is a path that i would like to take and my parents are in support of. however they are quite judgemental in how i would like to take it. My mom is not fond of my plan and makes me very well aware that she would rather me do what she wants.
For starters, let me explain my mom's ideal plan for me versus mine.

How are you paying for your accelerated BSN? I have one bachelors already so not Pell eligible. I don’t have any student loans so I think? I can take out student loans, but my award amount is 12,500/year and the cost per semester is about 10k for I believe 4 semesters.

So I'm entering my last semester of nursing school, and I applied for a nurse tech role, but my orientation starts the same week I go back to class. Because of this, I doubt they're gonna let me start, but I wanted this position because it's in the ICU, and I plan to do L&D or ED after I graduate. I was hoping if they see I have some type of experience, I'll have a better chance of getting hired. Sometimes I feel at clinicals I don't learn much because there's only so much to do. Hopefully in my practicum, I'll be the most hands on.
TLDR: Got offered a nurse tech job but they want me to c ..read more

i am passing but i hear the same thing over and over again, and it is that my anxiety is my detriment. i know that i know the content, but whenever i have to do a skill check off i become so panicked. i know i need to calm down, and just breathe, but i don’t know how and i’m scared that my anxiety is going to make me not capable of being a nurse. i want to calm down so bad, but i just cant. i’ve worked so hard to get this point and this is so important to me, and i don’t know how to gain the confidence to perform well. my heart starts racing, i get sweaty, and my instructor keeps a stoic face ..read more

I’m 32 now and really thinking about going to CC to start my prerequisites to get into nursing school.
I’m worried because as much as I want this I was a TERRIBLE high school student. The only reason why I passed high school was because I was always able to get an A on the exams. Honestly, looking at my high school transcript I’m starting to wonder if I’m even smart enough to try.
Im hoping with maturity that I can be a better student but has anyone been in a similar situation? Any words of wisdom?

(NEW HERE!)
So im a freshman, its my 1st year 2nd sem here in the Philippines. My school requires us to study the 17 assesment, so by the end of the semester (About 2 months after the 1st day) we're going to do a fishbowl method and surprise pick the assesment we're going to do.
Is this the good format tho? In the other nursing schools, they return demo EACH time they finish a topic. That sounds more logical, than studying the WHOLE checklist in under a week (because they surprisingly changed schedule) and selecting a random assesment.
It is our return demo this thursday, April 18 and was onl ..read more

Hey everyone, after seeing how many critical care facilities are short-staffed, poorly managed, and make it impossible to take sick time or PTO, I've decided I want to avoid any super stressful bedside role in nursing upon graduating. It's just not worth my mental health at this point. Are there any non-bedside roles (i.e. public health RN, research nurse) etc. that you can recommend? Thanks!

I've got a population health clinical tomorrow morning at a middle school. Has anyone else done clinicals at a k-12 school? I'm wondering what it's like... apparently the school district won't allow us to administer any meds so I'm not really sure what I'll be doing.
