Starting over and relaunching the blog

It took me this long, way too long, if I’m honest. The truth of the matter is, it’s an experience that I don’t want any fellow blogger to go through. The blog you’re seeing right now is more like almost 4 months  in the making, as I had to tap the expertise of fellow running bloggers Running Atom and Running Pinoy to guide me in appreciating the language of information technology, the nitty-gritty of web hosting, and anything that comes about it. As I made up my mind to relaunch this blog, things were in a roll—from migrating old posts from BlogSpot to WordPress (566 of them), d ..read more

The workout is timed, up to eight minutes. We were grouped by four where each had to do and execute properly the moves—from running a 100-meter distance, push ups, squats to ball slamming.  With fellow running bloggers Bards and Que after the CrossFit workout Each had to count and the total number of times we did each workout would be the total workouts done by our group.  We did about 389.  Not bad for newbies like us. To know more on how to have fun and get fit with this year\’s Women\’s Health Pop-up Studio, you may like their WH Facebook page at Women’s Health Philippin ..read more

It has been five years since my last aquathlon.  My first attempt was in an open sea competition in Corregidor.  It was not really to test how fast l was in swimming,  but it was to get over my fear of swimming in an open sea water.  I learned to swim late (in my early 20s) because of fear of drowning in deep water.  In fact, as my graduation rite back then, my swimming instructor made me jump in the deepest part of the pool, around 11 feet deep.   By the way, the deepest pool we have in my home city is 13 feet deep, good enough for diving lessons since it is equi ..read more

27 July 2014 — Joining the MILO® marathon this year was not part of my game plan.  But I guess fate intervened when I suddenly found myself invited during the event launch and signed up for the full distance. Later that day, I got to thinking how I would tackle the full distance within the six-hour cut-off timeframe considering there wasn’t enough time to train (and I mean to REALLY train) for it.  Running a full distance (even for experienced runners like me) may seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel your preparation wasn’t enough. Double time training si ..read more

13 July 2014 — When I looked at my mobile phone clock it said it was 3:24 AM and I have a race at 4 AM. Failed to set the alarm.  Yikes!  Luckily, I had everything readied the night before.  That was the quickest dress changing ever done by me! Whew! I arrived at the race venue with just 10 minutes to spare. From afar I could see the start arch where frontrunners have congregated.  I was finding people I knew who were running but couldn’t see any familiar faces except the ones on stage.  A lady marshal ap ..read more

29 June 2014 — It’s about time… I normally try to avoid trail races.  Being a road racer for quite a number of years now, I’m confident in my own turf.  But for trail running on unknown place, I got scared somehow as trail racing is a new thing for me.  I received invites for a test run or a road race in the south of Manila in the past, but I always begged off.  Yet on Sunday, I finally got to run and finished a more* than 30-km trail race on the trails up back in Nuvali, Santa Rosa, Laguna. *My Garmin registered 31.46 km which is more or less almos ..read more

It has been over a week since the Soleus Valley Trail Challenge race in Laguna.  And here I am still grappling with my post-race story.  Anyhow, allow me instead to share with you once more a trail running experience of a good friend/colleague of mine who was instrumental why I opted to try the trail running challenge.  I asked him if he wanted to share his story with you here so here it is. Francis or FR to his close friends has been in hiatus from racing and the trail race last weekend was to some extent his comeback in the world of long distance running.  He has scaled g ..read more
