The Husson University softball team, enjoying one of their better seasons in program history, continued to roll on Tuesday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep over the University of Maine-Farmington including a no-hitter in Game 1 at Prescott Field in Farmington. Game 1- Danielle Masterson pitched a no-hitter, and the Eagles backed her by scoring eight times in the fourth inning to break it open to win by mercy in five innings 11-0. In an Instagram video post on Monday, four University of Maine men’s hockey players have announced their intentions to return to the team for the 2024-25 season. Defenseman David Breazeale, along with forwards Harrison Scott, Lynden Breen, and Josh Nadeau are all coming back in hopes to build off the 2023-24 season, where Maine went 23-12-2 and 14-9-1 in Hockey East. It’s been a tough spring in Orono for the University of Maine baseball and softball teams. The Black Bear teams have combined for an overall record of 11-57 and a conference record of 5-21. The Maine baseball team (8-26) is coming off being swept at home this past weekend, and were outscored in the three game series 35-14 in non-conference play by Rider University. The reigning America East Champs have been plagued by injuries to key players. The Foxcroft Ponies held off a late Bucksport rally to earn a 5-4 high school baseball win at Bucksport on Monday afternoon. Hayden Strout allowed only two hits and two runs (one earned) in six innings on the mound for the Ponies. He walked four and struck out 10 on 110 pitches (65 strikes). Thomas Day, Calvin Landry, and Aiden Harvey each reached base twice for the Ponies. Jack Caruso had two RBI. Lauren Veino dominated in the circle to lead the Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers to a 13-1 win over Stearns on Monday afternoon. Veino pitched a two hitter, striking out 10, while walking one. Veino also scored two runs and had two RBI. Emma Potter had two hits, including a double, and three RBI. BANGOR- The Husson University baseball team opened up a four game North Atlantic Conference series with a seven inning doubleheader against Thomas College at the Winkin Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers (6-1) came in with a 1/2 game lead over the Eagles (5-1) for first place in the NAC East Division standings. The Husson softball team also played a conference doubleheader at Boucher Field (due to poor field conditions at O’Keefe Field) and tried to extend their 11 game win streak.
