Once a quarter I appreciate a brief pause in my weekly blogging ritual to do some reflecting and to express some gratitude in my life. This is a special quarter as it marks the end of my paternity leave from work. In the fall of 2024 we welcomed TresMoneyFinance and my company is incredible in their benefit of offering a 6 month leave for new parents. I wrestled with taking it all vs. some of it and in the end decided to take it all. It’s been an incredible time with TMF (TresMoneyFinance) and I’m also grateful that I have a job I’m excited to go back to! Here are some of the other updates in ..read more

I have been blogging for over 11 years here at YoungMoneyFinance. It’s been an incredible journey and I’ve had lots of life experiences along that way that I’ve been able to share. I’ve also had tons of conversations with friends, colleagues and readers of the blog about all sorts of personal finance topics. I’ve also had just about 1,000 posts that I’ve written or have had collaborators help write and that feels crazy to me! 11 years – 1,000 posts! Definitely a big milestone to celebrate.  As I turn more MiddleAgedMoneyFinance and less YoungMoneyFinance, I do a lot of reflecting. Mrs. Mo ..read more

Here recently I’ve had the chance to sit down with a few readers of the blog and do a little personal finance session with them. We talk about the fundamentals of personal finance, talk about different types of accounts, how to budget and try to get them on a plan! It’s been a lot of fun and I’ve recognized that there are a ton of little tips and tricks that many young professionals don’t know about or that can be overly confusing. It’s super cool for me to be able in my own way perhaps to help them out a bit and have them start developing some good financial habits now that’ll hopefully pay o ..read more

About once a year I like to take a step back and review my overall credit card strategy and then review what credit cards I have in my wallet and how I’m using them. Things change over time and so has my credit card strategy. I posted my 2024 credit card strategy a few weeks ago (and yes I have one and I think you should too) and following up on that I thought I’d do a deep dive into what’s in my wallet and why I keep it there!  CARD: BANK OF AMERICAN PREMIUM REWARDS Annual Fee: $95 Why I’ve had it: On the surface this card doesn’t seem that great with 2% on restaurants/travel and 1.5% on ..read more

Personal finance doesn’t have to be hard. At the end of the day it’s just about making sure you don’t spend more than you are making, making sure you are saving/investing, and making sure you have the appropriate safety nets in place. Of course in the real world it feels a lot more difficult, with more bills and more expenses (that are feeling more expensive all the time) and not as much of a paycheck as we would like. It’s a constant struggle, even for a personal finance blogger like me. I too stress about my spending, try to find ways to increase my income and worry about the future.  I ..read more

It can be so easy to get caught up in the day to day rise and grind of everyday life and easy to lose focus of the big picture. We live in a world where news is constant and often times it can feel like we’re living in difficult, dangerous and troubling times, especially in regards to the economy. Politicians and social media influencers will bemoan the troubling economy leaving us with a feeling that the economy is about to collapse and we should all be worried. This can get exhausting! I work in the tech industry and have seen plenty of layoffs all around me and have seen former colleagues s ..read more
