Korey Lee has earned the full-time backstop spot | David Berding/Getty Images Eight straight losses at Target Field for Chicago; South Siders on pace for just 20 wins in 2024 Whew, friends. This season has been UGLY. Honestly, my brain is a bit overloaded with abysmal baseball, and I’m running out of different ways to say, “Man, this team stinks!” Yet, here we are again — another evening of lousy play. And man, this team stinks. It didn’t take long for things to go south tonight. After a quick first inning, Garrett Crochet couldn’t buy an out in the bottom of the second. After a walk to Carlos ..read more

I make that face, too, Garrett, when watching White Sox baseball. | Mitchell Leff/Getty Images Can Garrett Crochet break Chicago’s five-game losing streak? Hey, White Sox fans! It’s Hump Day which brings with it another round of shoddy White Sox baseball. Tonight, the South Siders look to break their five-game losing streak, taking on their AL Central foes, the Minnesota Twins. Can the White Sox capture their fourth win? Will they blow another late lead? Can Andrew Benintendi actually catch a ball? Will Danny Mendick be the team’s 2024 All-Star? There are so many questions that likely have ver ..read more

The Guardians keep on winning. | Ron Schwane/Getty Images A quick look around baseball to see who’s hot, and who’s not! The Major League baseball season is a six-month grind. Hot starts fade, teams stumble and rebound, and trend lines shift as sample sizes grow and regress to the mean. Yesterday’s big win is followed by a clunker best forgotten. It’s the beauty of everyday baseball. Team Trends and Divisional Updates Who would have guessed that three weeks into the 2024 season, the Cleveland Guardians of all teams would be the best team in baseball, at 17-6? Winners of five straight and eight ..read more

With this swing to win a game 14 years ago today, Alex Ríos did something that’s never happened in White Sox history. Alex Ríos makes home-run history 1901 It wasn’t planned this way, but three games in other cities were postponed by rain, putting the White Sox in position to host the first major league game in AL history. Some 9,000 fans at South Side Park saw the home club beat the Cleveland Blues, 8-2. The White Sox scored five times in the first inning, and ran the score to 7-0 in the first two frames. Roy Patterson started, and got the complete-game win. Outfielder Billy Hoy took the firs ..read more

Carlos Rodón is looking like the Los of 2021. | Vaughn Ridley/Getty Images Carlos Rodón is having himself a season so far with New York, and James McCann is the perfect catch in Baltimore Hey there, fellow White Sox fans! Welcome to this season's new feature. It's a bimonthly update on how some of our beloved former players are faring with their current teams. Additionally, I'll cover some of our lesser-known old favorites, some mid-level players, and even a few former prospects. Fan favorite Carlos Rodón — LHP Last week marked the third anniversary of Rodón's monumental no-hitter. It's a sign ..read more

Lenyn Sosa popped off in his first game back in Charlotte, going 4-for-5 with two home runs. | Laura Wolff/Charlotte Knights A four-game farm SWEEP!! Charlotte Knights 5, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4 (Gameday box) (Statcast box) Brad Keller made his third start for the Knights and was efficient for most his 5 2⁄3 innings. He leaned on his fastball the most, and it ended up being his most efficient pitch (41% CSW) while striking out seven batters. Keller gave up just two runs on five hits, and walked one — the two runs coming in the third from a double and fielder’s choice RBI. 6 K's through 5 IP ..read more

Erick Fedde deserved better, but White Sox still get embarrassed by the Twins

Erick Fedde stuck out a career-high 11 and the White Sox offense delivered. Then, the ninth inning came. | Matt Krohn/Getty Images A record-breaking start can’t stop the losing. Plus, things that would get me to enjoy the worst White Sox team in history Happy Tuesday, White Sox friends, and happy birthday to hypothetical slugger Gavin Sheets. We’ve got a lot to unpack today, so I’ll open with a quote from South Side legend Bill Veeck: “The most beautiful thing in the world is a ballpark filled with people.” That would make the 2024 Chicago White Sox hideous. Mirror-shattering. Handsomen’t. Luc ..read more

Erick Fedde takes the mound against Pablo López | Quinn Harris/Getty Images More like Gamedread, am I right? Happy Tuesday, White Sox friends, and happy birthday to our third-highest batter by average, Gavin Sheets, who’s coasting just above that dreaded Mendoza line. The possibility that the Minnesota Twins will continue to struggle is keeping us afloat. However, even if Erick Fedde (1-0, 3.10 ERA) manages to silence their bats, it’s a sure bet that he won’t get the run support he’ll need to take the win. Pablo López is 1-2 with a 3.97 ERA entering tonight’s game. This arduous four-game serie ..read more

Lefty Williams got the win, throwing a complete game. Six months later, after winning the American League pennant, the ‘‘Black Sox’’ threw the series and lost to the Cincinnati Reds. Hitting machine: Danny Mendick collected a pair of hits in his first MLB game of 2024. | David Durochik/Diamond Images via Getty Images The South Siders got shut out for the eighth time. At least Danny Mendick made a good return to the majors In the opener of this four-game series in Minneapolis, the White Sox (3-19) fell behind early and could not catch the Twins (8-13). Ultimately, Minnesota ran away with this one, as the White Sox offense remained ice-cold. The trouble started about as early as it could have. To the surprise of nobody, the White Sox were retired in order in the top of the f ..read more
