Buying a $380k home in the Midwest at 6.5%. After I sell my current home, we’ll have about $250k in cash. Of course I will put down 20% at minimum for down payment - about $80k. On top of the 20%, how much more would you (recommend us) put down and how much would you keep for emergencies and such? Of note wife and I make about $115k-$120k a year. submitted by /u/DbzNbaSw [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I’m in need of advice. Just purchased a car in CA at a Honda dealership. I traded in a 2016 Mercedes Benz E350 with 129,000 miles I owed money on the car ($9,500) and they offered me $7,000 for the car Which I thought was a good deal because KBB told me it was worth about $6,200, so not far off Well after 4 business days on Thursday (I bought the car on Saturday) they call me up and say they made a mistake and reported the odometer wrong. They put 49,861 miles on the form. Which obviously increases the value compared to the 129,000 that was on the Benz. They told me I need to come in and adju ..read more

Strange call about an old debt today

I got a call from a company claiming another company had sent me a registered letter about a personal matter but it had been returned. They gave me a number to call to the original company. Since they had all my information already, I gave them a call in case it was about an out-of-town sibling I haven’t been able to get ahold of. Turns out in 1994 I bounced a $75 check at a craft store, and now they’re claiming there’s an $1800 judgement against me. How likely is this to be a scam? How likely am I going to have to pay that amount? submitted by /u/biscobingo [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

1040-ES Vouchers HELP

My wife and I filed our tax return for 2023 and ended up owing money for the first time ever ($2.4k). When we got our 2023 Tax Return from Turbo Tax it came along with four 1040-ES vouchers for 2024. I believe the problem arose from the fact that we usually set our witholding status as Married filing jointly through our W4s, but for some reason my wife set her status as filing Single for half of 2023 (we moved cities). And she just updated her status back to married filing jointly on April 2024. Do we still need to pay for all four 2024 1040-ES Vouchers even after rectifying our witholding st ..read more

I am in Texas, and was pressured by my listing agent into accepting a low offer on my house. I signed the contract to accept the offer. Then I discovered that my agent was in breach of his fiduciary responsibility to me for several reasons. Can I break the sales contract with the buyer on these grounds? submitted by /u/Dismal_Bend_2306 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Paying for private school

Is paying for k-12 a qualified education expense in terms of retirement account withdrawal? (Assume that our financial house is in order, and we are set up for a comfortable retirement unaffected by this.) We don’t currently max out retirement contributions because we have a number of plans available to us (eg, a 403b AND a 453b) and have other investments to make. Would it be smart to use one of these accounts to put extra money into and then pull out for private school? Our state caps 529 withdrawals at $10k per year per account. Could I open 2 529s for one kid and withdraw $10k each year f ..read more

Should I sell my car?

So I pay rent as well as car payments on my car. I have about 6k saved right now. And owe 14k on my car. I can afford the payments and rent and still save money. But I don’t like having that much debt and am considering selling it and buying a cheap beater car. Edit: I make about 5000 a month after taxes Rent is 1250 and car is 490 a month Plus 290 for insurance a month I’ve been able to save about 1500 a month but I just feel like I could be doing more if I get rid of the car payments. If it helps I also plan on moving back in with my parents In 7 months when my lease is up to save more mone ..read more
