Calling all conlangers: The Department of Linguistics will offer a UF100 course on constructed languages beginning fall 2024. Examples of constructed languages include Esperanto, the Klingon language from Star Trek and languages created by J.R.R. Tolkien for his Lord of the Rings series.
The department seeks discussion group leaders with experience in constructed languages. They also are interested in forming a campus-wide community of conlangers of all levels.

Advising and Academic Support Director Tomás Baiza has been named one of the featured authors of the 2024 Treasure Valley Reads program.
Founded in 2001, Treasure Valley Reads is a community-wide reading and literary project sponsored by the Idaho Humanities Council, the Cabin, regional library agencies and local booksellers. This year’s program will highlight Baiza’s debut novel, “Delivery: A Pocho’s Accidental Guide to College, Love, and Pizza Delivery.”
