How Do I Know If I Have REDs?

What are the symptoms of RED-S? Amenorrhea (the absence of a menstrual cycle) is the most obvious one, but there are many others. Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport can also lead to osteopenia/osteoporosis, stress fractures, gastrointestinal issues, mental health challenges, and many other harmful effects. Dr. Jennifer Gaudiani explains how our bodies have evolved to respond to under-fueling, and will help you recognize if you may be suffering from, or be at risk for, RED-S. Recovering from RED-S is hard. It’s even harder if you’re working through it alone. Even if you have professional suppo ..read more

Bumbleride Stroller

In the spirit of being transparent, I want to begin by sharing that I was provided the Bumbleride IRONMAN Stroller and paid for this. BUT I only represent brands I believe in, and have turned down many many other brands in the past, even when they have offered payment because I do not feel good about them. I am a fan of Bumbleride for many reasons more than their products, and I will explain below (and yes, there are some negatives included in here). I am honest. A few months ago, I was interviewed by a major publication asking about running strollers. That article has come out yet, the interv ..read more

4 Long Runs to Include in Marathon Training (If Your Life Doesn’t Fit into a Schedule)

Last week I gave you four workouts to include in your buildup for the marathon, but we know that the long run is just as, if not more important than the hard sessions, especially when it comes to actually seeing evidence that you can in fact cover 26.2 miles very soon. This is written with someone with a busy schedule in mind. If you are unable to work with a coach or follow a training plan, because your schedule is so tight or all over the place. You are who I had in mind, but anyone who is training for a marathon could include these four long runs. Each works on a different system to get you ..read more

Trouble Sleeping? This is What Helped Me Through Insomnia

UPDATE: I wrote this a few months ago, but I still feel the advice is helpful (maybe even more so). I would recommend adding to stay away from the news, twitter, or anything that talks about coronavirus after about 7pm. It makes a big difference! — There is a reason sleep deprivation is a form of torture. It is crushing, and I struggled with it for many years of my life. It definitely affected the quality of my life, and meant that I dreaded bedtime every night, knowing how bad it would be. One bad nights sleep from time to time is expected. You hear something right before bed that switches yo ..read more

I may only be in my 30s, and yes, that does mean I am not yet at the stage where I am having to experience a lot of the protests from my body that will come with age, or changes that occur in the fourth decade and beyond, but I have learned a lot from other friends who are masters runners through the podcast, and just general conversation to learn. Amanda Loudin, Jonathan Beverly, and Alex Hutchinson all gave helpful advice, and I want to thank them for their time. I also do have a few things to say before we get on to the actual advice here. First being, that the rules are changing around mas ..read more

Finding Balance Within Your Nutrition

Let me start with something in your face. You probably won’t like this, but unfortunately, this is the truth: There is no quick fix. There is no way to cheat the system (at least not long term), and the word balance, is just setting us up for all kinds of failures. So why would I use that word in the title? If I don’t believe there is such a thing as balance, why use it? Because unfortunately, those are the words we understand, the words that make sense to us. I am hoping I can explain it better, and hopefully change your approach towards food. The title I chose for this post was the exact req ..read more

UPDATE: I actually wrote this before COVID19 turned our lives upside down. I have left the article mostly as is, but this time more than ever is a good time to try these out. As none of us have any idea when our next races will be, these will keep your fitness up without taking up too much time or taxing your system too much. And if you haven’t listened to my special report podcast epiosde on COVID19 yet, you can find it here as well as the written guide if you are not a podcast person. Both of these will help you figure out a plan. — As runners, there is a lot of emphasis on setting big, sca ..read more

Just signed up for your next (or even first!) marathon? How exciting! Other than the chunk of your hard earned money that is no longer with you, everything about this period feels good. It brings on an endorphin rush of its own, and you start to envision the possibilities of what future you can accomplish. So now it’s time to put your head down and get to work. But wait, what does that actually mean? How do you actually do that? It’s just running, sure, but you know there are certain things you need to get yourself in the best fitness possible.  You could hire a coach, and maybe for a fut ..read more

How To Learn To Love Your Body
Tina Muir Running Blog

Learn to love your body. Sounds so simple, but we all know, it’s not. It should be something we do automatically. Deep down we know how much our body does for us. We know it helps us to breathe and stay alive, carry children in our arms, give and receive hugs that can mean the world. Yet the confidence we feel in how amazing our bodies are is at an all time low. One survey found over half of women are not confident in how their bodies look. The final few words are the key there. “how their bodies look”, how OUR bodies look. THAT right there, is what we judge ourselves by, it is what controls o ..read more

8 Productive Things For Runners To Do While Waiting or Traveling
Tina Muir Running Blog

We love to run. It is our freedom, our self care time, our breath of fresh air in a world of never-ending to do lists and rushing from one place to the next…or lets be real, one thought to the next. We love our running, we want to get better and learn more about it, but there just isn’t the opportunity to go to running seminars, workshops, listen to 25 podcasts a week, or add 35 new exercises to our daily routine. That being said, our days are also full of plenty of time that COULD be used productively, at least within a mental sense. We may not have physical time, but there is time to grow as ..read more
