Anchor Brewing – Thank you…

Anchor Brewing ceases operations and what follows the next few days is a plethora of stories about how, when and where you were when you had your first experience. I took a long think, and came up with a complete change in my first craft experience history. 1987 back home from college a manager at the restaurant I worked at was back from a trip to his hometown San Francisco.  He was so excited to share his hometown beer.  Anchor Steam, a beautiful campfire and stories of the beer took over.  We drank this delicious beer. He told me all about the steam process at the brewery and ..read more

Searching for Beer…

What are you searching for when it comes to this quest of finding the “Ultimate Barley Pop?” Asked so many times and for the moment I am wondering myself.  What is it in the beer we like; Hops, malt, added adjuncts?  Do you care if the beer is served in the correct glass?  Questions I think about all the time, amongst many others. I remember the first beer that changed my whole entire imbibing life.  Went from being a recent college graduate, first job and finally had a paycheck to where I could afford more than the basic low cost pub beer.  Drinking the low costs beer ..read more

Visiting Seattle recently brought back many brewery adventures/stories. My family was with me, and asked if I miss it?  Do I miss the search for breweries?  Yes…  I must admit I do.  However, the dreaded cough, two-week quarantine that became two years and everything has changed on how you visit, enjoy, and explore.  I pondered this question for a long time as I’m an over thinker.  In fact, for the past few years, it has been on my mind.  What is it I miss?  I know the new, the collection of adding that new brewery to my list just like Professor Slughorn ..read more

Ok, we had to make a quick stop the wife always runs the car near empty.  Once fueled up, we headed to Bremerton.  Music was blasting we’re ready for a fun day.  Over the Tacoma Narrows bridge.  I wonder what a beer can would look like hitting from up there (Squirrel).  Just a bit further and as we near Bremerton the big ships come into focus you know you are near.  First stop not too far now and the day of imbibing is here. Frist stop Chaos Ba ..read more

I make no bones about it; I grew up in Utah.  No, I was not if you’re asking but most my friends were. One thing about Utah is the 24th of July is a huge day for all those in Utah. You think the 4th if July is big go to Utah on the 24th you’d think you woke up on the 4th of July all over again with even more gusto, fireworks, and parades.  That’s right the fireworks stands are filled for another week in July for those lousy neighbors shooting off fireworks three days before and after.   The 24th of July is the celebration of the founding of Utah by Brother Brigham and his b ..read more

Back in the late 80’s while working at Oceans Restaurant in Salt Lake City, Utah.  I had the fun of working as a waiter/bartender of which led to me waiting on Wilford Brimley more times than I can count.  Well, if I took my shoes off, I could get a higher number. My time at the restaurant was a blast I met and waited on some great people.  Always a larger-than-life character from the moment he walked in. Very polite, soft spoken but you knew he was in the house.  He would come with family, friends from the rodeo circuit and a times those he was working with in TV and Movi ..read more
