Another high school baseball season has come to an end with a number of local teams finishing successful seasons.  Lincoln High School finished the season with an 18-12 record and with the MaxPreps highest final state ranking among Leon county teams coming in ranked 23rd statewide. Lincoln finished ranked 3rd in the 5A Class after losing to American Heritage in the State Semifinals. Chase Fuller led Lincoln with a .348 batting average. Children’s Service Council Holds Finance and Budget Meeting

On June 10, 2024, the Children’s Service Council of Leon County (CSC) held a finance and budget meeting to review the millage rate for the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year. For FY 2023-24, the Council approved a total budget of $9,633,960 with a millage rate of 0.3477. The final vote on the 2024-25 millage rate will take place in the fall. Leon County Commission Provides Final Report on TEAM Leon Efforts

At the June 11th Leon County Commission meeting, county staff provided a final report on the Targeted Emergency Assistance Microgrant (TEAM) Leon Program established by the Board to provide immediate assistance to individuals and businesses impacted by the May 10, 2024 tornadoes event as a bridge to eventual federal aid. At the June 11th Leon County Commission meeting, the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) provided a local economic update via the May 2024 Quarterly Economic Dashboard Report The update noted the Tallahassee International Airport experienced a surge in passenger volume, with the highest Q1 traffic in 14 years. Sewer Pipeline Near Maclay Road Breaks, Spills 230,000 Gallons

On Friday, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) issued a public notification (see below) related to a sewage spill reported by the City of Tallahassee. The report stated that on Thursday June 6, 2024, “while performing a routine inspection, City crews discovered a break in a 6? PVC force main near Pump Station 97 by 591 Maclay Road. Staff immediately shut down the station, stopping the overflow. Crews repaired the force main and placed it back in service. On June 7, Tallahassee City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow announced he was creating a new political committee to support the campaigns of current City Commissioner Jack Porter and Dot Inman-Johnson, a challenger to current City Commissioner Curtis Richardson. TPD Makes Arrest in Stabbing Incident

On June 4 at 10:18 p.m., TPD officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3100 block of Diane Road regarding a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult woman inside the residence suffering from serious stab wounds. Officers immediately rendered life-saving aid and the woman was transported to a local hospital where she remains hospitalized as a result of her injuries.
