Summer Recipes Collab: Elote

There isn’t much of summer left, but there is still time to enjoy it! The weather was perfect over the weekend, so my husband and I woke up early and went to the farmer’s market downtown. We ended up buying different types of garlic, a dozen ears of corn, tomatoes, and hot banana peppers. We decided to have a low key Saturday at home and grill out while enjoying the evening eating on our patio. We decided to make California burritos and elote, as well as mangonadas and margaritas to drink while we waited for the meat to marinate. My husband and I love making things from scratch instea ..read more

Seven Layer Bars

This particular dessert is very nostalgic for me. It makes me think of times past, and my childhood. I didn’t do much baking or cooking growing up, but this was one of the desserts that I remember making. It is just one of those things that has stuck with me. These are super easy to make and you can change out the ingredients to your liking. For example, you could substitute the peanut butter chips for butterscotch, or the pecans for almonds. I can’t vouch for how that will taste, because I’ve only made them according to the following recipe. I’ve been making these for over thirty years. In m ..read more

Dave’s Spicy Chili Recipe
Fabulous in Fayette

It’s that time of the year again where the weather is getting cold, so soup or chili is the perfect dish to warm you up. Chili is one of those things that is super unique, as in everyone has their own recipe. Everyone puts their own spin on it. Some people are on team noodles and others are on team beans, while some might include both. My husband, however, includes neither. He is originally from Los Angeles, so his version of chili, is more of a Southwestern style chili, instead of the chilis that are typically found in the Midwest and South. We like our chili with lots of flavor and kind of ..read more

The holiday season goes by so fast and we all have so many things on our never ending to do lists. Not too mention that Christmas can be extremely stressful trying to juggle everything. Between work, appointments, taking care of our families, decorating for Christmas, and anything else that might arise, it’s ..read more

The New Era of the Lexington Legends

If you follow MLB and have been paying attention, you would know that last year in November 2019, MLB made an announcement that 43 minor league teams would potentially be cut under Major League’s Baseball proposal to restructure the Minor League system. Unfortunately, the Lexington Legends were one of the teams on the list to be eliminated. This was in part due to the restructuring MLB did to their minor league system. Since hearing the news in 2019, I immediately was worried about what was going to happen to our beloved Lexington Legends. The Lexington Legends are going to celebrate 20 years ..read more

Local Spotlight: Koko x Forage Plants (Greyline Station)

Last week, I was able to check out Forage’s new space inside of Greyline Station, as well as their sister store, Koko.  Greyline Station is Lexington’s first public marketplace. You might remember driving by the old Greyhound building on the corner of Limestone and Loudon. It has sat vacant for more than 20 years. However, over the last couple of years, life has been revitalized into the building. Now, the first tenants of the Greyline Market are open for business. Eighty years ago, Lexington’s largest private employer was Southeastern Greyhound. Twenty years later, this building became ..read more

Chunky Crockpot Loaded Potato Soup
Fabulous in Fayette

I’m honestly not a huge fan of cooking with crockpots, but sometimes crockpots make things so much easier. Now that it is getting colder, it’s the perfect season for soups. One of my favorite soups to make is Loaded Potato Soup. I love it, because it’s indulgent and the ultimate comfort food. Besides how delicious it is, I love how you can let it cook for 6-8 hours and not worry about it. It’s super easy to make, because after you’ve prepped everything, you just follow the directions and put it in the crockpot and go about your day until it’s ready! I’ve been making this for years and it’s on ..read more

May 16, 2020 marked four years since I launched Fabulous in Fayette! It seriously feels like yesterday I began this site to pay tribute to all the things I love in Lexington and Kentucky. I want to thank everyone who follows me and that enjoys my content. Every like, share, or comment really means a lot! Like I mentioned in previous blogaversary posts (by the way, I hate that word, but that’s what ‘they’ call it), I’m no stranger to blogging. Fabulous In Fayette may have just turned four, but I’ve been blogging for eleven years. When starting Fabulous In Fayette, I didn’t want the focus to be ..read more

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo With Beef Taco Bowls and Strawberry Margaritas

Since it’s Cinco de Mayo, and also Taco Tuesday, I figured I would share one of my favorite Mexican recipes that I make at home. My husband and I actually are going to have it again tonight. This is probably one of my top five favorite dishes that we have for dinner. I’m a huge fan of rice. Some people may think rice is boring, but it doesn’t have to be! One of my favorite parts of this dish, and what takes it to the next level, is the chimichurri. Without it, the dish would be kind of forgettable and not very exciting. There is just something about the freshness of the chimichurri that eleva ..read more

Pasta in Vodka Sauce with Sausage
Fabulous in Fayette

Pasta is the ultimate comfort food and I love it of all shapes and sizes. Pasta is one of those dishes that is so versatile. I don’t discriminate when it comes to pasta. Two of my favorite types of sauces are tomato based sauces like a marinara, an arrabbiata, or a vodka cream sauce. When it comes to cooking, I much prefer making my own sauces from scratch, instead of buying a jar from the grocery store shelves. Obviously, buying a jar will be a time saver compared to making your sauce. However, making your own sauce is so much better because the ingredients are fresh and you can taste the di ..read more
