The final day of the 23rd Prague Fringe Festival has been and gone and former PYT student Megan Meunier finished off the Fringe Marathon with a final six shows. Here’s how that went… I had the pleasure of starting my day at A Studio Rubín, where I experienced Pip Utton’s captivating performance of Dickens. Utton skillfully embodies the persona of Charles Dickens, inviting the audience into a world where the renowned author shares his works and imparts invaluable lessons. With an air of friendliness, albeit tinged with pomposity, Utton’s Dickens addresses us as old acquaintances, delving into t ..read more

It’s the penultimate day of the Fringe and former PYT student Megan Meunier is busy as ever! Here’s what they saw on Friday… The day kicked off at A Studio Rubín with SHU’s delightful adaptation of Pericles. This musical retelling breathed new life into Shakespeare’s lesser-known play, offering a refreshing and accessible take on the story. The adaptation skillfully stripped away the odd disjointedness that has often been criticized in Pericles, leaving behind a streamlined narrative that captivated the audience. One of the highlights of the production was its engaging music, which effectively ..read more

It’s day three of the 22nd Prague Fringe Festival and former PYT student Megan Meunier has had a day filled with feminine rage, racism and a hairy godmother with a can of Pilsner Urquell up her skirt. Here’s how that went… I started my day by setting off to the Museum of Alchemists to watch the Strictly Come Barking clown show. It’s a cute and funny story about an old man and his dog entering a dancing competition, with plenty of hijinks and challenges along the way. The script is in very simple English, making the show very accessible to young children or non-native English speakers. There is ..read more

It’s the second day of the 22nd Prague Fringe Festival and former PYT student Megan Meunier has spent the day watching 3 works-in-progress and going to Bubbleword. Here’s what they thought… The first show I saw was Anu Vaidyanathan’s stand up show Blimp at the Charles Bridge Comedy Club and it broke my heart that I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped to. She begins the show with the assertion that a blimp is a good metaphor for a woman’s voice, which I thought was an intriguing statement and I was excited to see how she would develop the metaphor. Unfortunately, while the show had plenty of in ..read more

Did you miss me? Former Prague Youth Theatre student Megan Meunier (that’s me!) is back for first Prague Fringe of the spring since the pandemic. Here’s how the week started… I started at this year’s brand new venue, Charles Bridge Comedy Club, to catch Sezar Alkassab’s stand-up show “Laughable.” Unfortunately, my experience with the performance leaned more towards “passable” than “laughable.” While Alkassab displayed a clear sense of confidence on stage and seemed at ease with his crowd work, his charisma seemed to be lacking. Despite the show being sold out and the venue packed, the audience ..read more

All About Headshots

By Madison Mahrlig, PYT Intern, Autumn 2019  Why Are Headshots Used? Headshots are often required for theatre, film, television, modelling and singing auditions in order to show the casting agent/director an idea of the person’s possible appearances.  It also serves as a reminder of putting a face to the audition. For this reason, the headshot has to accurately portray the subject and be very neutral and clearly show facial features. Headshots are intended to show the actor as they currently appear, so especially with kids, they should be taken more frequently ..read more
