The last weekend in July saw The Game Fair return to Hatfield House. With temperatures reaching the high 30’s in the preparation and set up days, it was a shame the British weather was at its most indecisive for the 3 days of the show. Surprising us all with rain and mud, but in true country British fashion we carried on and good fun was had by everyone. CHARITY SHOOT RAISING MONEY FOR DIABETES UK

On Friday 28th June we hosted a Simulated Game Day in aid of Diabetes UK. A few months back a customer kindly asked us to host an event to help him raise money for the charity and we were thrilled to help him with this. The event went very well and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. The format for the event began with everyone meeting at the lodge for breakfast at 9am on the Friday morning where many people were able to see familiar faces that they had perhaps not seen for a while and catch up with one and other, along with meeting some new friends too. SIMULATED GAME DAY – NEW VENUE FOR 2019!

We hosted our first simulated day for 2019, held at the new venue in Ivinghoe Aston on Saturday. It went off very well and we have received some fantastic feedback from participants. The day was made up of drives designed to simulate Argentine Dove, High Partridge, Extreme Pheasant and included a 4 man pigeon flush (which got quite competitive!!) The refreshments, cooked by Lucy were very popular and included in field canapés of venison, partridge and crab, followed by a traditional ploughman’s with homemade scotch eggs. Phew!! After months of hard work our new store is now open and we look forward to seeing you all here. Our opening weekend of the Easter Bank Holiday in April went off well, with gorgeous sunny skies and lots of new and old faces coming in to visit us. We are currently building a new Carl Russell and Co 470 rifle which we are building on a Holland and Holland back lock action. The Holland and Holland back lock action was introduced just after World War One, this bolstered action is both elegant and strong. The Carl Russell and Co double rifle we are currently building has a hand-detachable sidelock design, with two triggers and  safety. It will be stocked using the finest walnut, with a pistol grip. We currently have a William Powell & Son 12g hammer s/s thumblever bar-in wood. 30″ nitro prooved barrels with 2 1/2″ chambers, choked 1/8 & 1/4 with recent re-brown. 14 3/8″ straight hand bar-in-wood stock. After around 18 months build time we are very pleased to announce that the first Carl Russell & Co shotgun is finally finished and now being used in the field. The gun is a 12g Best Sidelock Ejector over & under with 30″ barrels and is based on the James Purdey pattern which originally derives from the James Woodward design which was patented in 1913. The gun will be predominately used for game shooting and the occasional round of sporting clays.
