Half Full or Half Empty?
LA Dodger Talk

A glass containing water to the half-way point is often used to point out the difference between optimists and pessimists: The optimist sees the glass as half full. They focus on what is there. “So much that can be done with half a glass of water.” The pessimist sees the glass as half empty. He sees that the glass used to be full and now half of its contents are gone. Soon it will be empty. And he will be thirsty. Woe is me! If you want to get deep into any analysis of Glass Half Full or Glass Half Empty, there are really more choices than that. How about these? So, the pe ..read more

The Key to the Dodgers Offense
LA Dodger Talk

Everyone thinks that Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman are the key to the Dodgers’ offensive success in 2024. I beg to differ. Of course, the Dodgers need the three former MVPs to step up and do what they do, but there are a few other players who could also be the linchpins of their success, namely Teoscar Hernandez, Jason Heyward, James Outman, Gavin Lux, and Will Smith. Teoscar Hernandez – Baseball America said this about Teoscar: Hernandez and Seattle’s T-Mobile Park were a mismatch made in heaven. The veteran slugger reported not being able to pick up the ball out of the pi ..read more

A Look at the NL West

This is not going to be a long, exhaustive analysis like some sites engage in. Most of what they surmise never happens anyway. I do not need exhaustive comparisons and explanations of what may or may not happen. I prefer the 30,000-foot evaluation, and I do not get paid by the word! How the NL West Will Finish #1 – Los Angeles Dodgers – Well, duhhh! Do I need to elaborate? Even if Ohtani is suspended, they are head and shoulders above the field. #2 – San Diego Padres – They have less talent than in 2023, but they will win more games, and the pitching is likely to be better. #3 – San Francisco ..read more

Thanks for your patience, We are back after some server issues. After Game Two in Seoul, the internet was abuzz with Dodger fans denouncing just about everything about the Dodgers: Yamamoto was a bust Glasnow was horrid The bullpen was even worse Max Muncy was the worst 3B in the history of the game Ohtani was a degenerate gambler Well, I just made the last one up, but some fans thought/think that. I am going to say that none of the above is likely true… but I don’t have enough information about Shohei to make any determination. That will come soon enough as the FBI and MLB are investigating ..read more

We had to migrate our site to another server and we are having some PHP issues. My guy that handled this for 15 years moved to Florida so my new developer is learning on the fly. He is a solid guy and will figure it out soon. Patience Grasshoppers! I have a lot of “stuff” to discuss. We will be back soon! Shoot me a comment if you can. This Ohtani Stuff is crazy ..read more

What do I make of the game two debacle in Seoul. Very little! We know that the pitchers are better than that. Now, I realize that some Dodgers fans are so skilled in their analysis of players that after one game or one inning they can make a determination as to whether that player needs to go back to OKC or the boneyard. I am not that skilled! I wish I were. I do know that this Seoul Series caused both teams to cut short their Spring Training Regimen and also that just regular nerves which sometimes appear early in the season are a thing. I actually saw a lot to like. I like the fact that the ..read more

This Makes No Sense…

I admit that I am worried. Allegedly, Ippei Mizuhara, the longtime friend and interpreter for Ohtani, incurred some gambling debts and allegedly wired transferred $4.5 Million dollars out of Shohei Ohtani’s bank accounts with his knowledge or was it without his knowledge? Are we to believe that a player with Ohtani’s discipline just has no idea about his money? Can $100,000.00 disappear without someone missing it? How about $4.5 Million? ESPN reported this: Initially, a spokesman for Ohtani told ESPN the slugger had transferred the funds to cover Mizuhara’s gambling debt. The spokesman p ..read more

You’ve never heard that before! Ha, Ha! Nowhere do we see evidence of that more than with Gavin Stone. In 2022, he was the Dodgers Minor League Pitcher of the year and looked ready to take the next step. Then, after looking good in Spring Training in 2023, he laid an egg and put up a 9.00 ERA in 31 IP. The opposing batters simply beat him like a rented mule. He went back to AAA and looked better later in the season, but had a 4.74 ERA. Many Dodger fans, who were once high on him, lost faith in him and moved on. He was no longer the fickle fans flavor of the week. It turns out, he had a lot goi ..read more

Is everyone aware that the Angels are just one of only two MLB Teams that do not have Announcers who travel with the team? Terry Smith and Mark Langston, the announcers for the Orange County Angels, call the game from Anaheim by watching the Bally Sports West video feeds. Before this season, Angels owner Arte Moreno told reporters at spring training that Smith and Langston, who work for the team-owned radio station, KLAA 830, would continue to call road games from Anaheim, because the “economics” don’t change the experience. They’ve called games remotely even when the Angels played in Pet ..read more

Is Yamamoto All He’s Hyped Up to be?
LA Dodger Talk

While it is clear that Yamamoto has some very filthy stuff, he finished Spring Training with a 8.38 ERA. In 9.2 IP, he allowed 15 Hits and 9 ER. He walked 4 and struck out 14. It also has been rumored that he is tipping pitches. I heard someone say, “It doesn’t matter if he ‘s tipping pitches – they still can’t hit him!” YES THEY CAN! Now, understand that he has only thrown 89 pitches in Spring Training Games, so this is a small sampling. It is also very obvious that he has excellent control and some pitches that are very, very good. Contrast Yamamoto with Tyler Glasnow, who has a Spring ERA o ..read more
