When I found out that guest of the pod, Rachel Cossar , spoke on the TEDx stage in December of 2020, I knew I had to tune in. When Rachel was unexpectedly led to retire at the age of 27 from Boston Ballet due to an ankle injury, she wrestled with the question, “What do you DO when the unexpected happens?” As dancers, we are so present in our work, that we often don’t think much of the future. In fact, for most of us, the future is frightening. But what if we could actually build upon our identities as ballet dancers rather than feeling like we’ve lost that identity for good once we transition ..read more

I was completely unaware of how important it was to cultivate a productive mindset as a young dancer. But through years of wrestling with body image, injury, & setting goals not to please others but goals for myself, I’m thankful to have come to a place where I’ve adopted a mindset of discovery & that every opportunity I have to dance, it truly gives me so much joy. HUGE THANKS to the @dancebetterpodcast for inviting me to share my story ..read more

As Emily Pearson turned to Yoga to wind down after a taxing day of rehearsals as a Principal Dancer with Ballet West, she realized just how much of her time was spent living out of yoga clothes. I know MANY of us are feeling real loss right now. Whether it’s performances we were looking forward to, cancelled. Roles we were had been hoping to experience, no longer happening. And I know from experience it can either breed a root of bitterness inside of you or it can serve as a reminder to keep you focused on the current day you’ve been given rather than becoming bitter about what would’ve been. So in today’s episode I’ll be sharing what these ..read more
