The First Week of the new season….

It is nice to have our first week under our belt and also to see some nice fish banked on both lakes. The weather was unseasonably warm with temperatures up to 20c or so accompanied by very high air pressure all week. Not the best of conditions for our first week of the season but despite this the lads generally did well. On the main lake we have five regulars with the 3 Leicester lads of John, Lee and Tom on the Home bank and Geordies, Jaimie and Ollie on the Chateau bank. The total bag for the week was 21 carp with the bulk of the catch coming to the Home Bank lads, more that later… Tom fish ..read more

I have just returned from a pleasant walk around the lakes. The sun is out at last and the whole atmosphere of the place has taken a lift after the rain of this morning. The spring flowers are aglow everywhere and the flowering tree’s are being visited by myriads of bee’s and other pollen loving insects. The cherry tree’s along the dam are covered in a crown of pink flowers and are loved by the honey bee’s who are in such numbers that they create a constant hum that can be heard many yards away. The birds are rather like us in as much they are seldom heard or seen when the rain pours down but ..read more

Is it really Spring ???

The annals say that spring is now here and we should rejoice in its glory !! The truth is that weeks, nay months, of near constant rain and wind have created a morass of muddy, waterlogged, tracks surrounding lakes which in turn that have been overflowing constantly since refilling after the netting last December. I cannot remember a wetter period in the 20 years that we have owned the property. Winds of gale force have battered us at regular intervals over the winter, felling tree’s and branches both in and around the lakes which in turn creates so much work in the clearing and logging. It ha ..read more

I am afraid that I have been rather remiss in relying on posting in Facebook and not keeping the blog up to date. I am sorry about that and will ensure that weekly updates will begin once more with all catch reports published with pictures. Today has been a real joy with warm sunshine replacing the gloom and rain of recent weeks. The whole LMDM team have been working the area behind Deliverance and Island swims where 7 poplars and a willow or two have been felled, mainly for safety reasons. As you can imagine the debris, comprising huge trunks, branches and as well as the piles of smaller bran ..read more

Our final week of the 2023 season has now come to a close, a tough week but with fish up to 70lb banked the lads went home with a smile on their face. In fairness the final weeks of the season, whilst producing some fine fish, were marred by the torrential rain that has rapidly changed the conditions for the carp. Water temperatures dropped from 30c to single figures in just a few weeks and the lake levels rose to overflowing due to the constant rain. High winds have also been a feature this back end and as a consequence we have had numerous tree’s and branches falling around the complex. So m ..read more

A week that started with almost ideal fishing conditions gradually reverted to very warm sunny weather as the week progressed and catches slipped away towards the latter part of the session. The catch of 41 carp seems moderately good at first glance but when you look more closely at the individual weights it can be seen that the better fish certainly are starting to get their heads down on the bait. In fairness the carp, although crashing out all over at night, seemed to be more actively feeding in the deeper water which meant that Darren in Zippies saw the most action. That said, when Jimmy t ..read more

A week of mixed fortunes.

We experienced all weathers this week with hot sun shine, some cold nights and several days of heavy rain and wind. The lads did well in the circumstances and put together a catch of 56 carp, which is to be commended, albeit that the average weight was perhaps down on what we would normally expect at this time of year. The heavy spawning followed by a very hot summer has possibly been a factor with the carp taking longer than usual to get their heads down and feed in earnest. There can be no doubt that, providing we don’t see another period of extreme heat, the carp will be packing on the poun ..read more

Another week in the sun !!

The week finished off in grand fashion after a relatively slow start. The return on very hot conditions was not a great help however the lads know the lake and certainly got the best from their weeks fishing. The total catch was 49 carp for the four anglers, all regular visitors to the fishery. The breakdown of individual catches shows that the all swims had fish in front of them although the spread of fish changed depending on the daily conditions. At times the shallows were crawling with fish and yet some hours later and barely a fish was to be seen. Nights were a time when fish could be hea ..read more

A time of high sun and torrid temperatures !!

It is Monday morning as I write this post and finally the dreadful period of temperatures in the high 30’s has come to an end. A gentle rain is falling and a lovely fresh breeze is blowing across the lake giving a wonderful refreshed feeling to the place. Whether the late summer and early autumn weather is a sign that global warming is having an impact is a frightening prospect, hopefully it is just a blip and we will see more moderate weather next year. Whatever the reasons behind it we have experienced the longest sustained period of high temperatures that I can remember. At one point our wa ..read more

The cooler weather certainly helped the fishing once again and the lads put together an impressive catch of carp. It was strange in that both ends of the lake plus a swim fishing the middle of the lake produced great catches but two other swims fishing the middle of the lake had a harder time of it !! Perhaps bait choice, amount used or just the cussedness of the carp were the reason, we shall never know ! Top rod was Ross, fishing Zippies, with a stunning catch of 33 carp including a 60, a 50 and another 13 of over 40lb. Great fishing At the other end of the lake we had Dave fishing the Sanct ..read more
