ANGLER     Mandy Jellema, team member of Carpcrossing, mother and die hard carp angler. She fishes a lot and mostly with her partner Ray. You can find more of her adventures on her instagram page.     The Dutch winter at the start of 2020 wasn’t that cold, with the lakes not frozen up I continued fishing. In the colder months I don’t have a lot of time to be out on the bank, so I like to visit the smaller venues. In this time of year location of the bait is the difference between success and a blank, because I don’t think they move around that much especially a ..read more

Back in the 80s this lake was a very popular family holiday resort. In that period, they had stocked the lake with carp. This is definitely one of the few dams that we, as South African carp Anglers, know to hold several carp over 20 kg. Recently the lake record was broken and stands now at good 22.9kg. Therefore, it is quite heavily targeted, and many anglers have caught their personal best from this amazing body of water. The morning sunrises on this lake are some of the best you will see in South Africa. No wonder it was a popular holiday resort and now an even more popular carp lake.  I ..read more

As an angler there are moments that stick in your head for life, be it a screaming run in the early hours after a night of motionless bobbins and silent alarms or watching a big old carp taking your hook bait from the surface. Over the last few months I’ve been drawn to a new water that has ignited a new fire inside of me. I’ve developed a new hunger, maximising every opportunity to the highest level whilst fishing in the crystal clear waters of a lake full of natural food, weed and mussels with colourful lily beds making it a picturesque place to be. This place has honestly made me thin ..read more

It’s a foggy autumn morning as I drive my boat out of the harbour. Lucky for me I know these waterways very well. I sense the presence of a bridge when I pass her, but can’t see her. It’s that time of the year that the lake I’m heading for is at her best. Autumn makes her mysterious and silent. To get to her I have to drive the boat through a system of canals for about 45 minutes. I’m praying that nobo ..read more
