Join TEFL Express staffer Anna for a journey up a mountain in the Philippines.  Up in the playground of gods, Mt. Pulag is the 3rd highest peak in the Philippines. Standing at 2,926 metres above sea level, the borders between the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya meet at the mountain’s peak. It offers wonderful scenery of dwarf trees and scenic views of mossy forest. I had to trek Mt. Pulag twice for me to experience the breathtaking view of sea of clouds. My revenge climb was successful. It would take 6 hours to hike the top via ambangeg trail the easiest trail to reach the to ..read more

TEFL Nomads on the Road: Croatia

Croatia was one of the coolest countries I’ve ever been to. I felt like I was on the set of Game of Thrones for the majority of my trip, which, in my opinion, is a super cool feeling. In my opinion you need at least two weeks in order to fully experience the country and everything it has to offer. I flew into Split, which is a coastal city located just about in the middle (between north and south) of the country. While in Split, you have the option of relaxing on the beach all day, checking out the historical aspects of the city or taking one of many excursions they offer from there. I did ..read more

TEFL Nomads on the Road: Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a different world. Depending on where you go, you’ll see all different climates and terrains. I stayed in the south/central area, so I didn’t get to have exciting beach adventures. You totally could though! Sri Lanka has mountains, forests, tea farms and, of course, great beaches. If you choose to travel around the country, which I recommend, you should do it by train. It’s relaxing and you’ll see so much of the gorgeous countryside. I traveled between Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ella. They’re all beautiful and different places, but I think 90% of my photos were (unsucces ..read more

Positano is like a little slice of heaven on Earth! The days slip by as you take in all of the beauty of this town on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. The vibrancy of culture here is felt as you walk down the narrow, winding streets passing by all the local artisan markets. Is it close? Naples is the nearest big city with an international airport and a bustling train station. The drive from Naples to Positano about about 90 minutes. Rome, the nation’s capitol, is approximately a 2.5 hour train ride to Naples, with 9-more minutes in the car. You can also drive from Rome, where the biggest internatio ..read more

TEFL Express staffer Nathan is here to tell us about Hong Kong. Hong Kong is awesome! I say this with such confidence, because I didn’t know what to expect when I decided to go on this holiday, but I was blown away. Not only does it have a city feel somewhat like Blade Runner combined with mainland China and London, it also has a surprising amount of trekking and nature just a short bus ride away. Is it close? Chances are that if you are travelling in Asia, you might end up doing a layover in Hong Kong anyway. Why not book a multi-city ticket and stay there for a week instead of 10 h ..read more

TEFL Express staffer Lili takes us to Russia for a glimpse at Lake Baikal. Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world. It holds 22% of all the surface fresh water in the world. It is vast, changes like the ocean and is home to a zoo of wild creatures. I approached the lake on an early morning train from Ulan-Ude, a city in southeastern Russia. We were heading to Irkutsk, the carriage was empty and December snow was falling. By the time the sun rose we were skirting this enormous body of water, passing vacant summer houses and small snow covered villages. Every turn of the tr ..read more

Check out Peru with me! It has a lot to offer, including the stunning Machu Picchu Cusco (sometimes written as Cuzco) is in Southern Peru and surrounded by Inca ruins. The famous Machu Picchu is an overnight trip, or multi-day hike, away. The sacred valley and rainbow mountains are a day trip away. And there are many other attractions – both natural and Incan – easily accessible from town. The city itself is very tourist-friendly. There are many museums, restaurants, and plazas for you to enjoy. You can also expect staff to speak English to you, though any Spanish you use will be apprec ..read more

TEFL Nomads on the Road: Bagan

Join me in Bagan for an amazing experience surrounded by temples. Myanmar is an easy trip for people located in Southeast Asia; many major cities have a flight to Mandalay or Yangon and those that don’t will have an easy connection in Bangkok. Bagan is a bit more of a commitment. You’ll need to take a domestic flight, overnight bus or train, or river ferry. If you have time, do the ferry from Mandalay. It takes most of the day, but you’ll see so much of the countryside. Once in Bagan, you’ll want to make a plan to see the temples. That is the main attraction in the city. You can do a to ..read more

We’re taking a look at the romantic fairytale town of Bruges, Belgium. You may have heard of the historic town from the now-famous indie film “In Bruges” with Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes. TEFL Expressstaffer Nathan Beyerlein will do his best to convince you that this place is definitely worth a visit. Is it close? For anyone currently located near London, it’s a very short and relatively cheap bus ride away. Simply book your trip on Megabus for the best deals. You’ll go through the Channel Tunnel and then have a scenic ride through the French and Belgian countryside until you arrive ..read more

New Years Resolutions for TEFL Teachers
TEFL Express Blog

A new year gives us a clean slate to work on. Each new year, I try to make some resolutions for my personal life, and some for my professional life. I thought that it may be interesting for other TEFL teachers to read about some possible New Year’s Resolutions that align with our jobs.  For me, it often seems, that by the end of the year I feel burnt out and exhausted. As though all 12 months have just collapsed on me and I can’t get up. Of course, with a nice break for the holidays, I am usually able to stir up my energies for the upcoming year and feel refreshed on that first day of c ..read more
