The weather has definitely been most unusual this year. Snow in March....definitely not the start of Spring! Ayurveda and Vedic culture in general is so practical. Rather than lay out rules, the do's and don'ts, it explains principles. These principles we then have to decode and translate into our lives.Even though technically we are in Spring, looking around it was clear Spring had not really arrived. It therefore did not make sense to start following the Spring routine, so i took a break and as the sunshines in London today I will take the risk of restarting the series! So where were we....ah ..read more

In the Spring season all the recommended tips are ultimately to balance the dosha of Kapha. All the tips to follow will therefore be very useful for anyone dealing with any Kapha imbalance. In Ayurveda foods are divided by their tastes. Pungent tastes are made up of the elements Air and Fire and therefore help to decrease the heavy elements of Water and Earth that comprise Kapha. Pungent foods are therefore an excellent way to decrease Kapha. The Air and Fire elements however increase both Pitta and Vata. Pungent tastes are light, hot and dry making them a perfect addition to the Spring diet ..read more

During the Winter months Ayurveda explains that our digestive fire is strong and able to digest heavy foods. It is therefore recommended that we eat heavy, oily, sweet foods in the Winter. As we eat these heavy foods it is natural for the body to start accumulating some Kapha. Once the sun rays start to shine in the Spring this Kapha which has started to store within our bodies starts to liquefy and produce different signs and symptoms. These symptoms are similar to signs of excess Kapha. Often we start to get runny nose, heaviness, tiredness and can not understand why. Well according to Ayurve ..read more

Today I will begin my Second Health Tips series and have decided to write about Spring. In order to keep consistency everything will now be posted on my blog and Social Media and other channels will link back here for more detailed information. Ayurveda is such an intricate and beautiful science. If we look at a tree and observe it throughout the year we will see it change through the months. First the leaves will begin to grow, then the flowers start to bloom, fruit trees then begin to bear their fruits. Once the fruits have ripened the leaves may wither and fall only to restart the process a ..read more

Healthy recipes that taste good don't have to take a long trek in the kitchen. This dish is ready in 10 minutes flat and I have to say is one of the most delicious meals I have had in a long time! The way we eat and our diet choices are based on many, many factors. We are influenced by our desires to look a certain way, our health, our ethnicity, our moods, the season and even what is in the fridge or available to us. For over 2 years I followed a Vegan, Gluten free, Sugar free diet and recently I decided to rethink my diet choice. As i experiment with dairy I am trying out some recipes. I use ..read more

Digestion is such an important part of your health and for those who suffer with IBS, acidity, heartburn, Ulcerative colitis and other such illnesses will agree how much it can affect your life and with time other aspects of your health. Whilst modern science is beginning to understand this a lot more now, Ayurveda has this understanding a long time ago. Cleansing the bowels, keeping the digestion working were the first points of treatment for literally any illness. Why make changes once you are sick? Why not introduce healthy eating habits before you are sick and avoid ill health? I often fi ..read more
